Glass cleaning ideas?

I seem to have trouble finding a good method for cleaning glass.

I usually use Stoner Invisiglass, with fine steel wool, then with paper towels after that, but even after a couple of times I still get streaks, etc. Most of the cars I detail are classic cars with 30 yr old + glass, so that adds to the problem. Newer cars don't seem as bad. I saw the Diamondite system on premiumcarcare.com, but it is apparently about $13 per application which seems a little high.

does anybody have a good regimen for cleaning/polishing glass really well?

Thanks,

Heff

You sure are right about the 20/20 being over the IG. I used 20/20 today for the first time after using IG for the last 4 months. Man what a difference. It's 20/20 all the way for me till I find something that can top it.

I use Pro's Aerosol Glass cleaner and Microfiber towels from YoSteve.com.

It is easy to get streak free windows even in the sun w/ the glass cleaner steaming off the windows. It also cuts through haze and smoke residue easily.

Don't know if it still works but years ago we used to use windex and news paper to clean windows with. It was not suppose to streak glass. Haven't tried it for awhile.

In the past I’ve used paper towels, but had a lot of bad luck with them - - linting and smearing. My current method is an initial scrubbing with Stoner’s and/or EF ClearVision using a microfiber towel, then a light misting of the cleaner and a final buffing with an old newspaper. New newspaper (less than a couple of weeks) gets a lot of ink on my hands. Every 4-6 cleaning I substitute #0000 steelwool for the initial scrubbing. Claying works great too.

Lately I’ve been experimenting with Diamondite and Zaino. They both look great from the exterior, but I’m not sure that I like either one on the windshield.

...Rain-X glass cleaner concentrate. One bottle makes 8 gallons of glass cleaner. Diluted to the proper ratio, i find that it cleans very well, rarely streaks, and claims to leave a protective coating(however minimal). Water beads like crazy on my windows every time i wash. i usually just wash windows with the rest of the car and then clean them with the Rain-X glass cleaner afterwards. This method is almost as cheap as water and has pleased me quite a bit. YMMV

...oh yeah - i alternate between paper towels and newspaper, but i've never had a problem with either.

I like to use TW Clearview or EO 20/20 with a cotton towel initially. Then go over same area with a 16x24 waffle-weave towel I bought from Microfibertech. Just fold the towel down to palm-size and it makes a great final wipe. No streaks. :up

well i dont have the streak problem, but rather, hard water spots. so i have been using Maas (chrome&metal polish) to do the windows. After i am done then i use a mf towel w/ h2o. looks great then.

I have tried everything I can think of for glass, nothing was acceptable to me. I constantly got micro linting from MF towels, and paper towels were horrible. Even the special "glass cloths" were unimpressive. Finally I just started using newspapers, and it works great!!! No lint, no streaks. Just clear glass.
