Mr. Clean

The Man Who Knows The Man
As you may or may not already know, I have long been a fan of Hope's Perfect Glass. 1) IT WORKS 2) It's locally available 3) It is reasonably priced when purchased in the 32 oz. refill bottles.

But I've got a pending project where I'm going to need more product at a better price point and preferrably locally available.

The one product which comes to mind is Meguiar's D120. 1) It is available in gallon 2) I can pick it up locally 3) I think the gallon dilutes to 10 or so gallons of cleaner and 4) if memory serves it is a proven performer.

Is this product still a performer? I will be probably using copious amounts on industrial strength dirty windows. I need a relatively quick clean sans streaking.

AutoMagic's Glass Cleaner Concentrate or RTU are also possibilities due to their availability.

What say you?

ive been wanting to try the maquires as well. The AutoMagic blue glass cleaner ive never cared for much, maybe i have the dilution wrong. I have tried one of there sample sizes of Clear Difference (AutoMagice as well) and ive liked that much more, but ive mainly just used it around the house.

All I can say is you reminded of the Hopes after I saw it in Home Depot years ago but never got around to trying it. I just got the Megs, wish I could get it locally, but now I can play around with it and see if performs to my satisfaction.

I use the Meguiars product all the time and it works great. If you wanted to amp up the cleaning ability, perhaps you could use 0000 Steel Wool carefully with the window cleaner and it would speed up the process, or use hot water to rinse the windows off to start and then use the window cleaner..
Or if you have a steamer, use that first and it may be all you need..

Good luck with this !

The Meguiar's works amazingly. 1 gallon will make 11 gallons of cleaner. It is a great deal. If you have a Sherwin Williams Auto store locally, you can buy it locally. I get all of my Meguiar's stuff from them. They carry the Mirror Glaze and Detailers series at the one that I got to. If they don't have it, they can get it within 2 days for me. I like the Meguiar's better than any other cleaner. I even like it better than Stoner's IG. For the price, it can't be beat.

Well I have stringent conditions to test it under. Hot, hazy and super humid. If it can tough through all of that, it will be a super winner. I'll be trying it out. I'm also going to figure out the best towel or towel combination in my situation works best with it

My favorite glass towels are $0.99 each from Amazon. They don't lint at all and are amazing at cleaning. They are the same one that DD sells for $3 or $4 a towel. With all MF towels, I prefer to get them straight from the Wholesaler because it is way cheaper.

Finish Kare has a concentrated window cleaner you can dilute down and it works well. Meguiar's window cleaner is good too.

Make sure to cut it with distilled or filtered water for best results. 1 gallon makes 11 gallons of cleaner (10 gallons of water + 1 gallon of cleaner). It smells GREAT and works extremely well, even on tough road film. :bigups

I didn't think anything could compete with the Meg's D120 until I tried the Zep Commercial Concentrate at $8 a gallon.

Of course a car doesn't need that strong of a mix, but if you're fighting stubborn grime, Zep is a performer.

I second the distilled water which only adds a penny to the mix.

I use just plain water in a spray bottle. My supplies already cost enough as it is and I'm not about to make window cleaning one of them!

I wish I could do that but my climate won't allow it. If I were to do that I'd have a haze and streaking nightmare on my glass. :(

First, thanks for the responses...

I've been happy with their (AM) wash soaps and APC products, which led me to think of them. I went and looked at their listing and saw they offered 4 options...1) Clear Difference/RTU you mentioned (#43) 2) Glass Cleaner Concentrate (#46) 3) Glass Cleaner Aerosol (#60S) and 4) Glass Cleaner/RTU (#64) I guess I can understand offering a concentrate, a RTU and an aerosol, but am curious about the 2 RTU options.

I have long been a fan of Hope's. Strongly prefer it to Stoner's or SprayWay - though admittedly I am biased against aerosol glass cleaners (I use them, I just don't like them much).

...

Semi (tractor) Lots of glass...lots of dirty glass...far dirtier than your run of the mill. Even worse than my personal worst which was a vehicle which had sat long term under a pecan tree.

The Meguiar's works amazingly. ... I even like it better than Stoner's IG. For the price, it can't be beat.

The first comment is very familiar to what I've read about the product in the past. Re: Stoner's IG, it recieves a lot of hype for what I consider to be an average performer (but to put that in persepective see my comments above)

... I'm also going to figure out the best towel or towel combination in my situation works best with it
I'd offer my opinion on this, but IIRC that you have already proclaimed that suggestion to be one of your regrettable purchases. Blue huck towels. Best towel I've ever used for glass. Check out your pro window cleaners such as those who do the high rise buildings...huck towels and a squeege. Yeah, those guys don't want to go back to clean up smears and smudges.

I love D120. It's one of my favorite glass cleaner. Plus I love the smell of grapes :)
More of the same sentiment. I don't recall ever reading anyone posting that they did not like this product.

That should really go without saying. I have used distilled water to cut the majority of my chemicals for years. IMO it is especially important with glass cleaners (yeah, I've done the homemade mixture for the house windows).

I didn't think anything could compete with the Meg's D120 until I tried the Zep Commercial Concentrate at $8 a gallon.

I've passed by the Zep concentrate on the cleaning aisle (Lowes?). I think I remember seeing an ammonia and non-ammonia based glass concentrate. For this job I could use the ammonia based cleaner since there is no tint to worry over. I just don't know how often I am going to sign up for this kind of job in the future. Hmmm...well something to consider anyway.

And yes, using distilled water doesn't seem to add a whole lot of extra expense of chemicals.

Hey you read my mind I've been using a squeege and following up with my hucks, this is one approach that's been working well for me! Just had to find the right combination of tool and procedure :bigups

AM aerosal glass cleaner is good as well. The RTU stuff is mainly for samples and their Estore wich is trying to reach the average person not just the profesional.
