Glanz and cold temps.

We finally had a nice day here where it wasn't -20 F or snowing. Washed the car yesterday and this morning it was 36F so I decided I'd see if Glanz would work ok in the cold. My trunk lid is small so I applied a nice even coat and left it 20 minutes. Removed very nicely with M/F towel.

I applied Glanz to the rest of the car from the belt line up and removed it with a PC with the oem screw in pad sitting on a M/F and it came off great. I did notice that humidity could be an issue as it was humid out and a couple of times I leaned close to see how I was doing and the breath made a fog on the surface and if it wasn't allowed to evaporate and I ran the cloth through it it tried to streak.

I didn't do below the belt line because this time of year its hard to make sure all the sand is washed out and I'm not into swirling.

The car has Zaino on it and the Glanz is more for mid winter topping and additional protection on the horizontal.

I was wondering how cold a temp I could use it in as well. I planned on trying it this week so thanks for the post. It was quite helpful to me.

So, you topped the Zaino with Glanz? You just stripped the Zaino. Glanz is loaded with solvent and will take a big bite out of whatever is under it.

Talk to Sal .. alcohol strips it .. Glanz isn't strong enough..

It will strip a good portion of the Zaino. Glanz is a heavy solvent, which is also why it can't layer.

And since I should "talk to Sal", I'm assuing you already did, I'm he told you it's pointless to top his product anyway.

Lots of stuff with strip Zaino - alcohol, solvents, MEK, boiling sulphuric acid....

You know what Glanz reminds me of? The old version of Wax Shoppe Super Glaze. The stuff in the glass bottles. Forrest posted some recollections of it here a long time ago for those interested in it.

When your/I'm refering to stripping to me means takes it ALL off .. You even changed your "You just stripped the Zaino" to "It will strip a good portion of the Zaino" I have topped it before with Glanz with no visable effects. If there was visable effects .. trust me I would have seen them. It may have taken some of the Zaino .. but stripped it ... There was a deffinate Zaino visual effect on the car prior to the Glanz and its still there. Go figure...

On the other hand

Every wax has solvents in it and many top Zaino and Klasse with them so in essence the Pinnacle/S100/#26 or whatever the flavor of the week is for a topper is lifting some of the sealant.

Read my first post. I said it will take a big bite out of it. Glanz isnt a "normal" wax, it's loaded with solvent. But, if you want to strip probably 50% of your Zaino off and cover it with silicone, knock yourself out.

You might note, though, that the products typically selected to top sealants are non-cleaner paste waxes, specifically because a) non-cleaner == no abrasives, and 2) pastes are generally lower in solvents than liquid waxes, and less likely to do damage to the sealant layer.

I don't recall too many posters using liquid waxes (let alone something as solventy as Glanz) as toppers, with the exception of a few that use #26, and a couple (including me) that have tried Liquid Souveran.

Tort

I appologize for not using the topper of choise . I'll let you know in the spring how things turned out. I know Sal says its pointless to top his product .. but then thats marketing isn't it.

The purpose of my posting was to share how Glanz worked in cool weather. There ARE some out there that use even tho its not the flavour of the week and what is does or doesn't do to whats under is of concern to no one but me.

In the future I'll try and post topics that aren't that easily subject to drama.

Did the look of the paint change after you put on the Glanz?

No it didn't .. the glassy look that the Zaino put there is still there. The only change is the little bit of depth the Glanz gave "over" the glassy Zaino effect. I have used Glanz over nothing and I know what that look is.

I haven't seen all that supposed 1Z wax solvents, in fact, 1Z doesn't confirm that theory, they even say it can be layered. Is it about the smell? Well, let me tell you about German products, they don't mask their smell with essences...To smell good.
