Getting the spring itch - How's my plan?

Hey Moe!

The weather forecast here for the coming weekend is calling for 50s-60s. I have a four-day weekend coming up, and so, I am getting the itch to try products I have picked up.

My 05 Focus ST (dark gray metallic) survived the winter well, thanks to Collinite 845, and two-bucket washes with a foam gun. Some water spots, and very minor marring. A couple of scuffs from flying road debris, in just a few isolated areas.

I plan to wash, clay, wash, and then get out the PC. The few scuffs were going to get SSR2.5 with a Sonus DAS orange pad at speed 6. I was planning on using SSR1 on the whole car with a DAS green pad at 6. I was going to follow up with RMG with the DAS blue pad at 4-4.5, and finish with Natty's Blue by hand. As time goes on, I would intend to clay from time to time with the Sonus green clay, and add a fresh coat of Natty's Blue.

I may bring out the alloys and summer tires and have them installed. They got some #3 topped with 845 before they were put away for the winter. I have Poorboys' Wheel Sealant, but after reading posts here, I think that I will just put on another coat of 845.

Will there be a need to remove old products on the car (alcohol wipe), or will the polish take care of that?

Please feel free to critique my plan.

You could do an alcohol wipe, but I think the wax would be pretty well deteriorated if you haven't applied anything since before winter started.

Your process sounds good to me. I'm getting real anxious to install my summer wheels and do some detailing too!

I'd try an area and see what happens. If you get gumming/etc. on your pad then do the alcohol wipe. If all goes well, I wouldn't bother with it.

About the only time *I* ever need to do the wipe is when I'm removing a healthy amount of KSG. Otherwise I usually just polish through whatever's on there.

Paul - I, too, would love to get the winter tires off. The Blizzaks I have are a little "wiggly" in the dry, and have worn hard in this lack of snow. Goodness knows, they haven't really been needed.

Of course, as soon as I make the switch, it will snow big-time here!

Heh heh, my thoughts exactly. The few times we've had winter weather there was plenty of ice and the Blizzaks were the right tire.

I worked on my Passat last weekend. Loved it. I ran it through the local wash bay, came home and PB Spray and Washed, and then took some OC, OP, and WG Sealant. I actually skipped the polish on most of the car. Looks friggin great. Then as the sealant was sealing, I trimmed the black with PBTR, whipped out the PBBB on the tires and wheel wells, and did my interior minus the extractor (figured it's not summer YET). I couldn't be happier to have braved a brisk day on Sunday to be getting all of those jealous stares as I roll down the road.......BTW- where in Central PA? I'm in Millersville. :2thumbs:

I'm in Clearfield, an hour west of State College. About three hours from you. However, I do get down that way occasionally, as I officiate a lot of college tennis matches (F&M, MU, etc.).

Which year is your Passat? I like them a lot (have driven my sister's), though I have to stay on the cheap side until the kids ore out of college.

Nice. I have a 99 V6 GLX. Windsor Blue. Slightly modded exterior (I think the way they should have been produced). I love the car. Deluxe and tight and speedy when it needs to be. I have two years to pay it off. Already dreaming of my next car.

Actually, back to the process. Driving around today I noticed some halograms and i decided to break out the OPolish. Then I resealed it and I am finally content.
