getting rid of stubborn bug stains?

I have some small bug or similar stains on the front bumper and air dam. I've tried claying and TW's bug remover, with limited success. I am obviously reluctant to do serious rubbing. You can't see the stains from more than a couple of feet, but I know they are there and it bugs the hell out of me. How do I get rid of this stuff?

It might be that the bug guts were highly acidic and etched the paint. I would try polishing. Although, sometimes the etching is so deep that there's nothing you can do about it except re-paint or live with it.

I think they are on top of the paint, you can feel them with your finger and pretty small, maybe a 1/64 to 1/32" in diameter for most of them; besides, the car is new and I can't imagine that the paint got damaged beyond repair in two weeks. Machine polishing is not an option for a lot of the stuff (not that I have a polisher) because the stains are in fairly tight spaces.

It might be worth soaking a cloth with the bug cleaner and placing this on the area for 5 minutes or so.

As long as the bug cleaner is not solvent based. It might soften the paint and cause problems.

How about a paint cleaner such as Pinnacle PCL or Meg's DC #1? But when I can't get 'em off with clay I usually find they've etched the paint and I have to use a polish.
