Getting ready to order 4" LC pads

I'm thinking about ordering the LC 4" Spot Buff kit for my PC 7424 (don't have any pads yet).

CCS Spot Buffs 4 Inch Foam Pad Kit Free Bonus!

I'll be using these with Meg's #83, #80 and #21, do I need to get any other pads (green?) or will what comes in the kit be enough? Are two orange and two white enough to do one vehicle? I'm guessing I'll have to clean them as I go.

I realize that a lot of people like to use different size pads and lots of different polish/wax products, but since I'm just starting out, I'd like to keep it simple for now. I've been reading and searching on here almost everyday, trying to soak up as much as I can before I get my hands dirty. I'll be starting on my faded/oxidized Jeep Cherokee for practice, and then moving on to my Dakota.

1.) I don't like adapters on my BP it is asking for trouble

2.) you should be able to get what you need for less than that

3.) F.Y.I. oxidation is hard on pads

4.) try a search this topic has been talked about alot

If you buy that kit for the pads then get a separate 3.5" BP instead of the BP and adapter that comes with it (I don't like using them either):

3.5" Dual Action Flexible Backing Plate- porter cable 7424 or 7336 hook and loop backing plate 3.5 inch.

Another good source for 4" pads is Patrick at Exceldetail:

3.5^^ Hook & Loop Flexiplate

4^^ Erasure Turbo Pads

There's nothing wrong with using all 4" pads on a PC, in fact the corrections will go a lot faster and I've both waxed and sealed with 4" pads on a PC and don't think it really took that much longer.

BTW... has anyone has had any problems/rubbing with the 3 silver rivets sticking on top of the backing plate on the other ones?

not a problem if you use the spacer that came with your PC;)

i'll stick to the flat ones without the rivets LOL. BTW BigJim... you should change your signature to "use the search feature", can't count how many times you've recommended it... :lol :D

FWIW I'm only running 4" pads on the PC these days. The 5.5" ones are still on the shelf, but I too have found it easy just to use the 3.5" backing plate (the one from AutoGeek that John was kind enough to link above) and the 4" pads. I'm using the LC orange and white pads - some CCS, some not. In general I actually prefer the low-profile pads. And speaking of Autogeek, they're still selling these at a great price:

Lake Country 4 Inch Foam Pads Low Profile- Made of high quality foam, these pads have hook & loop backing all the way to the edges. The benefit of

I have a few yellow pads, but I don't like using them. I know Patrick, and perhaps a few others, advocate them, but I've just found the hazing to be too much trouble for the correction work being done. With few exceptions, I've found the orange pads and a harsher product, to be quite effective...considering, of course, the limitations inherent with the PC. The blue pads are great for glazes and sealants.

Good luck... I've said this before, but the 4" pads on the PC have been a blessing and an obstacle for me. Because the combo works so well for most of the detailing I do, it's delayed my learning curve on the Makita rotary.

Thanks guys. After doing some research, I kind of regretted getting the PC, but I think 4" pads will help make up for it.

I think I'll start out with the 3.5" BP, some low profile orange LC pads (good price) and then some white and blue Erasure Turbo pads (also made by LC, right?). Should be good to get me started.

I just ordered a couple of the orange 4 in pads 2 weeks ago. FWIW, the backing does not go all the way to the edge of the pad. They look just like the pic. I just noticed that statement in your link. Guess I should have read the description before ordering.

If you're using a 3.5" BP, then you don't need the backing to go all the way to the edge of a 4" pad, right?

I think the 4" pads and PFW to be a blessing for pc users.

4" yellow or 3.5" PFW?

Anyone?

I have the 4" yellow and can't say I'm thrilled with it. I've tried it with 3M Extra Cut Compound and M105.

M105 seems more PC friendly BTW.

So should I ditch the yellows for a PFW?

sorry for the hijack.....

Short answer: Yes.

I'll be trying the 3.5" PFW soon (this weekend, hopefully), but based on feedback from Eisenhulk, Accumulator, and others....I'd agree. I mentioned this above, but I've stopped using the 4" yellow pads with the PC.
