getting "crustiness" on the edges of the pad?

on the outer rolled edges of the pad; after maybe 5 sections, some harder dried compound material accumulates; problem is, its scratching the paint. like on the square section being worked, around the square I get really really bad swirls.



solution is easy, I just go clean the pad and swap a new one in as soon as I notice it developing.



but I have to figure this isnt how its supposed to be? so why is it happening? Im using constant pressure and holding it level; or so I think.
 
menzerna. notably the powergloss and intensive polish; which I guess are the same thing, power gloss just has more of the same cutting stones in it.
