Getting back that brand new paint shine..

Hi

I have a black 2001 F150(Ford PickUp truck) and... it still shines when I get it waxed... but somehow it doesn't have the enough shine that makes you say simply ".. is new".

I don't like how it looks, is kind of opaque.

English is not my first language so I don't know the key word to search what I'm looking for.

I checked the "Learn" sections but there is only aislated tutorials, I can't make a step by step guide in my head with that unless I guess I read all the articles, which I'd like to but don't have the time.

I have find some newbie posts with good info... but still the correct way is to ask for some guidence considering my specific case(vehicle).

So far in 3 years I've just waxed the truck kind of every 7-6 months.

I have found out that there are several type of products(and brands)... Dawn, Clay, Sealent, etc.

If you where to get to buy my 2001 Black truck... What would be your Extreme Makeover to make its paint to look as new or as cool as possible?

- Wash the truck

- Clay

- Wash again

- Polish

- Wax

Is this the correct proccess?

Even if it is.. could you please extremely elaborate about what, when, how many times, etc. for each one of the previous steps?

NOTES:

My environtment is kind of dusty.(My home street is not paved)

I can buy online

Would the local Pepboys store be enough?

I found this Zaino tutorial but it comes from the manufacturer. What do you think?

http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=Z&Category_Code=APPLICATION

You may also give me a link to an article you think would help.

To give you an idea, you could tell me something like this...

- Get the #X, #Z, etc. this and that, for T this would be enough.

- First wash you truck with this

- Then apply this

- Wait for X hours

etc. etc.

Thank you very much

You have the order of steps correct.. wash, clay, etc.

A lot of things are a matter of personal preference. What looks good to me may not look good to you. For instance, some people like really shiney tires and some don't like their tires to be so shiney.

What products have you been using so far? One thing to keep in mind is that no product will look its best if you do not properly prepare the paint. By claying and polishing first, your paint will be prepared to look its best.

I forget what Pep Boys sells, but they should have either Mother's clay or Clay Magic. I've tried both and they both work well for me.

There's dozens of car wash soaps out there. Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo seems to be a popular one that you should be able to get locally.

If your paint is swirled, you'll need an abrasive polish to get rid of the swirls. I use Meguiar's polishes and they perform fine for me.

Since you only wax every 6 - 7 months you'll probably want something that is known for its durability. You linked to the Zaino website and Zaino is really known for its durability. The two Klasse products -- All-In-One (AIO) and Sealant Glaze (SG) -- are also known for their durability. AIO really cleans the paint and is used as a prep for SG which makes / enhances the nice shine. Think of SG as a long lasting, synthetic wax. Some people like to follow SG up with a carnuba wax to add some more beauty and wetness to the paint, but that isn't 100% necessary.

I think this is a good article for giving you the basics on what you need to do to make your car look good. It lays out the ground work for making your car look good, then the other articles on the site explain the steps in more detail. You'll probably end up reading most of the articles as time goes by.

Thank you Perry

That's what I'm looking for.

Now I need to review the products recommended there and their similar in other brands(Meguiars and Zainos). See which ones will I get locally and Online

I'll see the proccess Articles and then get back for some feedback.

I Realize that I do need the best Paint preparation possible, and this I think is very delicate so I won't start without knowing how to avoid any paint damage.

Thank you
