Getting back into using the PC 7424.

I have been out of the detailing world for quite a few years. I am getting ready to get back into it. I have a Dakota I will be using them on that has been a bit neglected and also some other family vehicles that are in very good shape from almost no scratches/swirls to did they drive through a a thorn bush. I have some Wolfgang TSR 3.0/finishing glaze 3.0 left over form a few years ago. never got around to using it though. From My under standing, the TSR 3.0 will correct depending on pad used, using a white pad will get less correction that using an orange pad with it. Will the TSR be good for doing heavier correction or would I be better with something else. I was also considering looking into the Megs 105/205 combo. How do they compare, are they both pretty much the same or is one more versatile than the other? Versatility of use (wider range) would be good. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there, sorry to see no one has replied to you yet! Let's get to it:

First of all THE DAKOTA! I have one as well, so hopefully I can give you some tips on how to work with the paint. Many questions first: what year is it? Garage/car port/street kept? When you say "neglected", what kind of defects are we talking about? Mine was heavily oxidized on the cab and hood, and heavily swirled everywhere. In fact, here is a thread I started last summer that detailed the process. You can see how bad it was before, the level of correction I was able to achieve, and the products I used:

I honestly don't know anything about the TSR3.0. But if it really does what it claims to, that sounds pretty amazing. My experience with the Dakota is limited to M105/205 and Meg's over the counter Ultimate Compound (UC) / Swirl X. Both the "professional" stuff and the over the counter stuff actually work brilliantly on the Dakota paint. However, I had a REAL ***** of a time with the oxidation on the cab. Best recommendation: Try a panel, or section and see how the TSR handles your paint. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Dump the Wolfgang TSR and go right to M105 or even D300 for the correction phase. There really is no comparison. Oh, and you gotta try the Meg's Micro Fiber cutting pads too. You should have no problem with the FG as your last step with a white pad cleaning up any residual marring that occurs from the 1st step.

Sorry for the long time to reply back, just been too busy at work. My Dakota is a 2001. It has lived its entire life outside.

ThrillHo, I checked your thread for your correction and my Dakota is about the same condition as yours was.

I will look into the 105/205 combo. Thanks for the help.

critical_level2- If working via PC, get the little (IIRC they're 3") MF cutting pads, those work quite well (and the 6" ones are awfully big for a PC to work OK with). FWIW, I was able to do great correction with them using Uno, which is a lot more user-friendly than M105.
