German VS. German:drugs, weapons, european mafia

a writeup i did for Einszett on Vwvortex

German VS. German. Most people know all the products out there. I for one thought i did as well, but a few months ago Mike from einszett became a forum sponsor. No, its not the newest thing, they've been around for a while. apparently. To tell the truth, i've never heard of em. So i shoot Mike@einszett an email. I ask him for some free stuff. Just like everybody on the internet, I want something for free. Paying sucks. Mike calls me, and he's a really nice guy. Wants to take time out of his day to call me (long distance) and talk about what I want for free, and what I can do for him. I'm impressed, so I give him the rundown of what i want to do. He agrees to send me out some 'larger' samples, and i get them in the mail the next week. Shipping was like $6.75- which MIKE PAID FOR. So free turned out to be totally, 100% FREE! Get ready for a read.

My part of the bargain: i told Mike that a proper showdown was in order. Not some Sally comparison. A comparison that i was sure to make Mike and einszett lose. Not that I dont like the guy, but i wanted to stick to what his claims of effort were. I knew the stuff I use would HAVE to be better than 1Z. They HAD to be because they cost me a small fortune.

Yeah, so that's the picture. Mano a. Mano, my arsenal of the almighty Menzerna set to DESTROY einszett. I knew i could do it. Unless it rained. Again. and AGAIN. yeah, and again. Northeast this year has been horrible. I've been trying to do this comparison for 1 solid month now. Today i got the day off, and the weather report had a 10% chance of precipitation. My widget weather report showed a sun. Today was the day.

THE CAR:

Driving and even looking at this 1993 Mercedes 300E rushes images of european mob activity to my head. You know the deal- ripping around Nice with a few kilos of blow in the boot and a hefty briefcase of dosh you just snagged from some unlucky bloke at the wrong end of your temper. I seriously need to own this car. It's not the best thing ever. It is 13 years old, it isn't incredibly fast. It is however one SICK looking car. Flat panels, tough stance, a look that is totally unavailable from today's auto market. Love it, want it.

Anyway, the process goes like this:

93merc8.jpg

Rinse, wash (double bucket method), rinse, Blackfire Polyclay, rinse, wash, dry (w/BigBlueII).

93merc9.jpg

I get the moldings taped up

93merc13.jpg

Left side of the hood for EINSZETT, right side of the hood for Menzerna...and the secret Carnuaba weapon Pinnacle Souveran.

After the clay, i took a few pics of the paint. The car looked good when i grabbed it, but when i got the layers of wax off, i realized that the paint was in pretty tough shape. Hard water spots, etching. I was a little scared to tell you the truth.

I get the PC 7424 out, and throw on an orange LC pad, and start going to town on the whole car except the left section of hood. I go through Menzerna Intensive Polish, Final Polish II, and then the unthinkable happens. It rains. Moses with the ark. Noah. Whatever, it was bad. What a :banghead: I go inside to sulk. My dogs are all barking, there's nothing on the internet that's new today, and I'm in a foul mood. 10 minutes later, the rain is gone, i have sun and chirping birds, and the heavens are shing upon Merc. I rinse off the car again, and give it a real quick wash with a little soap, buy i just do single bucket style.

I pull out the 7424 again, and start putting..... it away. More rain. Just got done drying the car, and i get more rain.

Angry and determined, its time for the interior to get clean. I use woolite to go over the interior quickly, then i break out the 1Z Cockpit Premium. This stuff goes on awesome, smells ah...German (i like it), and looks the OEM Biz. No bling bling shiny crap, you get a factory clean look without the grease. I will buy it again and again.

Before: hmmm.

93merc6.jpg

After: vacuum, little green with Oxyclean/Woolite mix on carpet

The rain finally lets up, and i apply the Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze (machine/black pad), FMJ(machine/red pad), and for the kill- Pinnacle Souveran(by hand) and buffed with a quality MF towel. Here's what i get after 6 hours of washing, buffing, scrubbing, cursing, and every form of fun you can think of.

Hard water spotting gone!

But now its time for the einszett stuff to come in. (polish and glanz wax)

product2.jpg

Polish was applied by hand with a MF applicator. I gave it some elbow grease, but nothing like the PC can give. Polish is easy to work with, and seems to do a perfectly fine job. I buff off the polish, and see a result similar to what i get from the Menzerna Final Polish II- which took 1 hour to get to. Damnit! I grab up the wax, and slap it on with another MF applicator. The wax goes on thin and smooth- its synthetic, and is like no wax i've ever seen. It's almost like a thin liquid that goes on incredibly easily, and buffs out to a very slick shine. I was actually impressed. Me, the **** that spends big$$ on car cleaning stuff because its the UBER wax made for Mercedes etc...

To wrap up, I like Menzerna. I also like einszett. If you scrutinize the pictures i took, you can tell the reflections on the Menzerna side are way better. They are crisp, exact, and amazing. They also took HOURS of polishing to achieve. The 1Z side looks great and feels great. If pressed, you may not be able to tell the difference. Your average Joe could never tell. The discerning detailer would have to give it a double-take. This almost as good result came from literally 10 minutes of effort. 10 minutes. Impressive! If i put in that kind of effort with all the similar 1Z products, it could possibly be just as good. It may even be better :screwy: Now i have to figure out a way to get the full line of einzzett to my house for free!

Thanks again Mike

The difference between the Menzerna and 1Z line is that the Menzerna products actually *removed* the swirls versus the 1Z products which just *filled* the swirls.

You should have done a IsoA/H20 wipedown of the 1Z side after using the PP and you would have *seen* that this is true.

If that is your goal for a quick fix, that's fine but if you're more @nal about prep, you need to stay with the superior polishes like Menzerna or ZPC.

I have used the entire 1Z line in the past but no more...

While I love my Menzerna, I'm not ready to discount the products from 1Z. I will try the IsoA/H20 next time on that car. To einszett's credit though, the hood had hard water marks that i though were going to be impossible to get rid of(even with Menzerna). after i waxed, they were diminished.

The paint was single stage, and the microfibre pad was dark black after polishing- i dont think there was any 'filling in' about it

To stay objective, i will polish and experiment with what you said.

FModena- what do you think of the 'cockpit premium'?

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

1Z cockpit premium is an okay product, If you can get it for FREE, go for it!

If not, you can just go with the OTC product Meguiars Quik Interior Detailer Spray. Megs has some of the nicest misting sprayers on their bottles. It's only $4.99 at Pep Boys.

IMO, the finish left behind is very similar...

You're totally wrong; have you ever even used 1Z polishes or Glanz Wax? It appears by your comments that you haven't! The polishes do contain wax and silicon which offer MINIMAL filling ability, but they also contain plenty of abrasives that take down scratches and provide a beautiful, smooth finish. They are awesome products.

But aside from that, Glanz Wax contain SOLVENTS that remove any other wax or filler already on the paint; therefore, even if the polish(es) left some fillers behind, they would have been removed by the Glanz (which contains basically NO filling ability.)

Great write up! You have some terrific writing skills. :)

Interesting comparison, I've used products from both lines and have been happy with them. Menzerna polishes are more clear but 1Z Metallic Polish and Glanz Wax is a really nice looking and easy combo on paint in good shape.
