O.k. So how does a generator work exacly? I found one for a good price and has a 4 gallon tank. How long will four gallons last if I'm running a PC, Lights (when polishing), and a WET/DRY vac. What are my alternatives when detailing customers cars.

Any info you could offer about generators would be great!!!

Please don't make the mistake of choosing a generator based on price. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to gas engines.

I look for quality first along with the features I want. Mine is a Robin(Subaru) and it cost me about $1,600. I chose it because it is

1. Commercial grade - Won't let me down

2. Fairly quiet - Which is always a plus to me

3. Idles down - great when buffing especially, idles real low when the buffer is off but powers itself up automatically when you turn the buffer on.

4. Electric start - I work out of a pick-up truck and being able to just turn a key rather than reach back for the pull cord is convenient and efficient, which are two things that are important to me.

All these features may not be important to you, but when choosing a pretty vital tool for your business, IMO price should not be at the top of your list.
