GC as a Klasse topper???

I was gonna go give my fathers Towncar the Klasse treatment this weekend, but he's really wants to use some GC he just bought. Will it be ok as a topper on the Klasse?? The life of the GC is not a problem. The car is only driven a couple of days a week and mostly sits in the garage. I am gonna let him see how good it looks with the GC and then convert him to something else.

Ok, I'll probably get flamed for this, but anyway.....here's my $.02....

Gold Class does not make a good topper. It has cleaning properties in it that "might" interfere with the base coat of wax/sealant. Some will claim it's not a cleaner wax, some will say it is. I say that when there is debate, err on the side of caution and avoid.

That said, Gold Class is a good wax, maybe just use it alone if he is bent on using it. That way you wont potentially be wasting time or product on a base coat. Just be prepared to reapply in a few weeks when it wears off. Gold Class shine is excellent, and better than Klasse. Just stinks that it's so short lived.

I'm going to agree with RH on this. I've run into a lot of discussion (including RH in them) about this and here's a thread I dug up to back it up:

They use the key words "polishing" and "cleaners". Probably won't kill Klasse in one application, but this says to me it will eventually... I know this is a bummer because I've read good things about GC too and it's easy to find.

Your father will probably like gold class because it gives a very nice shine ( that does not last). Be careful it will stain your black trim.

I just hate to see someone do all that work for something that will not last. Maybe just wash then GC.

Look I am an old man and I know we are hard headed but try this. Say "dad let me do it the way I know and you will love it".
