Garaged and got rust.

I had my car garged for the winter. Only went out in salt once and I did a major detail on it but only put one coat of Klasse S/G on it. On the rear hatch area there is a bubble and obviously we all now its rust underneath the paint. When I did the major dettail it was 40 probally degrees out if not colder. I let car sit in garage and I remember seeing a water mark and I thought it was just frozen water on the rear hatch. So I left it alone and come to find out it was a bubble. Could it be that it was frozen water before and it just rustd up that area? I wouldnt think so since the car was in the garage. BTW this is a 99 black integra.

~One mans opinion / observation~

I’m still not convinced that a product that has such a great cleaning ability (solvents) would also leave a substantial polymer protection.

I have no intention of ‘shooting down’ a good product that I’ve been using since ‘60s; it’s just my opinion.

~Hope this helps~

You probably got some water underneath he panel, inside the frame after the wash. The water just sat there and did not dry up, causing the rust, from the inside.

AFAIK, rust has to start from a break in the paint somewhere, and doesn't just spontaneously form because water sits on top of the paint.

Maybe you had a hairline crack in that area?

Yeah, I'm with 4DSC. Rust usually happens sorta slowly. Often it festers for a LONG time before you get a bubble/visible rust-out. It's USUALLY not like your protection failed and allowed some rust to start through a pore in the paint from water just sitting there on top of it.

More likely a break in the paint like 4DSC said, or longstanding water trapping, where something (out of sight) gets wet and stays that way like LouisanaJeeper said. It eventually spreads to where you DO see it, but that's not where it started. Those really are the two ways it can happen.

Damp storage can accelerate that sort of rusting, so run a dehumidifier or something.
