Garage Remodel

OCDinPDX

Paint Ph.D
Well guys...after many years of 'maybe we should's and procrastination, we finally got around to a FULL remodel of the garage. It took a little over three weeks but was well worth it.

We accomplished (in no particular order):
  • New Cabinets
  • Floor Epoxy
  • Black Sockets & Switches with Stainless Steel Plates
  • T8 Florescent Lights
  • Got rid of tons o' junk
  • Painted two coats of semi-gloss white on walls and ceiling
  • Edge molding around wall and center column
  • Fix damage to walls and center column

Here are some before photos. I warn you, it's pretty fugly. :yikes:

Just a general mess here in the befores. As you can see, my detailing stuff was already boxed up for temporary storage when this picture was taken.

The floor had all the signs of 12 years of use (and abuse in some cases).

The lighting was far from ideal for detailing and even struggled to provide light at night.

You gotta start somewhere...so we tore out the ugly old metal and particle board shelving and began cleaning. Tear-down and dump runs alone took two days.

Yours truly applying primer to the door frame. You can see the old eggshell off-white color towards the ceiling.

The mess of construction...

I've got some more polishes and pads on the way and I'm hoping for a Makita for my birthday. :rockon

Gallon jugs are now stored out of sight.

The same stereo...it just looks much more at home now.

:thanks for looking!

Man i got garage envy, that looks great,so clean. I had a thought, could you tap a line into your central vac to use for detailing?

What floor did you end up going with and what kind of prep did you need to do? The finished results are amazing, I too have garage envy!!

WAY to clean now! Was way to clean to start with.

Whatever you say, man. :D Looking at the before photos makes me want to puke. :rofl

It's great to see all that nice work... I remeber when i did my garage in my old house...

Thanks, man. It was well worth it.

Already done. :bigups

Looks great !!!

Now hop a plane and come east and help me do mine.

Thanks, guys! We had the floor shot-blasted to prep for the Griot's Floor Epoxy. A little spendy but my neighbor has had it for 9 years and loves it. The stuff still looks great, too.

Shot blasted ?

It's like sandblasting but with small steel pellets. They are propelled at the floor, etching it and because they're steel, a magnet recovers most of them and they are recycled. Very minimal clean-up and far more environmentally-friendly than the muriatic acid we originally planned on using.

Took him about an hour and cost a little over $400.

As well as they don't have to let anything dry so they can apply floor right away.

Very nice job. The before pictures weren't bad, it just wasn't as organized. Now everything looks clean and hidden. Very nice and bright color scheme. White and gray will always look great. :)

He used Griot's Floor Epoxy, I believe, and I was hoping he was still around so he could give us an opinion of it after living with it for two years.
