I have six overhead, 8-foot long, Philips bulbs currently lighting my daily work, but I know I need better lighting... Any recommendations on these size bulbs for maximum lighiting when detailing cars? I've been told to get halogen bulbs... Yea? ...

All your comments are appreciated!!!! Thanks guys!!! :rockon

I have 6 high bay 6 bulb t8 fixtures in my shop . 9 foot ceiling 24x 16 . Along with 6 recessed 100 watt cfl. This works very well. I changed from the 8 foot tubes, will never go back. I am going to try led bulbs this week in the recessed fixtures. But I still have my trusty brinkman

1000sq ft garage with high ceiling and realistically 600sq ft or so of work area

I'm loaded up on 4ft t8 fixtures on the ceiling (cheap ones at HD or lowes since they buy in such bulk). 11 in total = 22 bulbs

I have 4 CFL bulbs on clamp lights providing a 45 deg angle off the walls

Everything is in the daylight spectrum (5000k-5500k temp) that is important

all of the above is for 'general' detail work. not paint correction. I could actually use more horizontal fluro lights

for paint correction I have 4 par38 LED bulbs (single diode) mounted around the garage on clip lights. Again, in the daylight spectrum. I have a 5th LED bulb on a stand I can adjust. Kill all the fluro bulbs and the LEDs will show every swirl. Great for an initial walk around inspection as well as for use during the correction. I turn all other lights off except for the LED flood lights and my LED headlamp

Most people use halogen lights for paint inspection / correction. You can debate which shows more, halogen or LED but no question that halogen gives off a ton of heat plus LED is more efficient. 5 of my LED bulbs = 90 watts. My halogen stand is 1000w

search around the forum here. all of my lighting ideas were taken from stuff I saw on Autopia.

Bryan--how do the leds perform with light colored cars as I've had trouble easily seeing swirls on my car unless in the sun??

What brand CFL/LED bulbs are you running? I'm totally in favor of running non T8s, etc, CFLs and LEDs perform unbelievably well.

For light colored cars the key is to aim the light away and in a very dark place.

Great tips and advice guys. Thank You.

Suggestions on any specific workforce portable lighting fixtures?!? 500Watt or 1000Watt? LED? Halogen? Here's a pic of my garage if it helps...

Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.

you tell me. photos all taken in this thread with a point & shoot (although a halfway decent one). White Audi q5

the clamp on lights for the cfl's are simple walmart / home depot clip lights. To securely hold them in place I used zip ties. The LEDs were too much weight for the clip lights so I found $7 photo lights on amazon that serve the same purpose. Again, where would I be without zip ties.

Do these look similar to the lights you've got?
