I did a search and didnt come up with a whole lot. I did see where Bretfraz had posted the same opinion as I have on a particular product.

I am building a new home. I am thinking of installing the Wayne-Dalton i series of opener. It is installed right over the door so that this is no belt, screw drive or chain drive. It looks to be the shizznit.. LOL.. anyway, does anyone have experience with this opener or know of someone that does? The builder referred me to his source that bad mouthed the unit but I dont know if he isnt just saying that so that I will buy his unit.



Please post your experience or it looks like I will be going with a traditional style opener..

Never heard of Wayne-dalton, but I had a Chamberlain Whisper Quiet installed in my house about 2 1/2 years ago when I built. It REALLY is QUIET. The door moving makes more noise than the opener. Plus I've never had any problems with it.



I'd buy one again in a heartbeat!!
 
Love Wayne Dalton openers and doors. I don't have the idrive but have seen it and will put it in for my next opener. I have even thought about replacing my less than 1 year older standard Wayne Dalton openers with the idrive. Check out this Posting on a woodworking site I frequent. If you contact the guy (rmcbride) with the bottom post he will tell you all about his experience with the idrive.

I got the Whisper Belt Drive and I'm pretty happy. However, if you don't mind spending a bit more ... I'd go with the Idrive - no question.
 
I love Wayne Dalton. I have all his albums.



But I don't have his door and opener. I have a Genie Excellerator Turbo Type R. For a standard opener, its great.
 
I'm with Bret. The Genie excelerator is the bomb. I grew a beard waiting for my old Crafstman to open the door. Now I press the button at the end of the driveway and before I reach the door it's fully open.

I recently had to replace both of my garage doors and openers....I went with Wayne-Dalton 8300 series Stainless doors, insulated to R-11......these are great! I really like them a lot....two of my bedrooms are over the garage so I wanted to try and keep the garage a bit warmer and keep the noise down....so for openers I went with Liftmaster 2280 1/2HP Belt Drive....these are really quiet compared to a traditional chain drive.....they have been great so far....with a lifetime warranty on the motor and belt....good luck with whatever you choose!
 
A friend of mine just installed the Wayne Dalton Insulated Doors and the I-Drive opener and I have to say it is a nice setup.



The drive is EXTREMELY QUIET, very very fast on the way up, average on the way down and offers a host of features.



Features include



- sensorless system - instead the drive detects a opposite force and reverses the door. I tried it by placing my hand under the closing door, it required minimal effort to stop the door and reverse it.



- it also has a 10 second timer so you don't have to run out of the garage and slide under the door.....very cool feature. This combined with the sensorless system makes it easy to use the garage as the main point of entry if your house is designed that way.



- another feature is complete wireless system. This includes a keycode transmitter mounted outside, the lights which turn on when the opener is activated and the pushbutton opener mounted inside the garage.



- multiple lights can be mounted with this system since the lights are activated remotely.



- the drive has a lock feature which prevents the door from opening when the door is completely closed.



- the drive assembly sits above the door instead of above the car. So for those of us with space constraints it is much easier to install shelf units above the car and get full utilization of ceiling space.



I believe Lowes sells the entire system for $235/door plus installation. Only thing I don't know is the reliability.



I currently have an old Genie screw drive which I am not too impressed with, this is on my long term list of things to change.
