Funky Food Smell?

There was a subway sandwich left, in the bag, in my car while I was out of town (i was told it was thrown away, but whatever). Now there is a funky old meat smell in the car. What can get it out? I was thinking of starting with that Oust air sanitizer, any ideas?

You can cover it up with fragrances, but to remove it you are going to need an ozone machine, or an odor fogger. Over time, however, the smell will dissipate.

Can you let the car "air out"? Maybe park it in a garage with the windows down and a fan blowing fresh air into it? I would clean the interior top to bottom and spray a little unscented lysol into the a/c vents. Good luck!

I've recently found some stuff that really works on all kinds of odors. It's called Zero Odor. This stuff is a molecular odor eliminator. Doesn't cover odors up with fragrances. You can find it online only, at ZeroOdorStore.com

If you want to first try something pretty cheap and widely available, hit the area where the bag was with some Fabreeze. It is targeted for pet odors, but it neutralizes a lot of other funky smells, IMHO.

(edit: it's Febreeze)

You could also try the new Meg's Odor Eliminator. I have a bottle but I haven't used it yet. Actually I think I'll go spray some in the Protege to get that smell out from the THREE air fresheners that the previous owner had under the seat.

I think you are talking about a rotten meat smell. Because it is not touching anything, it has permeated the interior. Ozone should work, as should a good odor bomb. You could also strip the interior with a good odor chemical cleaner. Remember that most of the smell is in the soft surfaces, like fabric.

I think that your problem would also go away, with time and maybe your fav. fragrance to cover it up.

Make sure you put the bomb in a bowl, if you plan to release the whole can. It will be overkill and might " wet " the headliner. I would recommend that you fog the car for about 15 seconds, spray all areas and then close it up for a few hours or overnight ( if you spray heavy you will have to do the windows). You might have to do this a few times. Let it air out before entering. If the can doesn't have a "spray can style" cap or nozzle, look for one that fits.

Did you get a chance to use the odor bomb yet? I just got some today for a nasty car and wanted to see what kind of results others had before using mine.

Thanks,
