Frist Clay/wax?

Just picked up a 2007 Santa Fe, absolutely love it!! Deepwater Blue Mica, finally a dark color, after having Reflex Silver for 5yrs on my VW Golf, anyways question is should i clay before the winter? is rail dust really an issue? figure i will use S100, i do have some left over Pinnacle Paste Glaz, which is for lighter color cars, but guessing will work fine, untill i order Souveran, looking forward for the first Detail :2thumbs: , heres a few shots

Yes, you should. You never know what contamination it picked up during its journey. BTW, nice ride and congrats!
 
Thanks, thats what i figured, ill prob clay, then maybe #20PS, and top with either NXT/S100 or left over PPGlaz, ill prob do all this first wash, or in a few weeks?
 
Good lookin car and detail. If it were me prepping for a Canadian winter, none of the waxes you mentioned would be what I reach for. I'd go for something with some serious durability (Klasse SG, Zaino etc). Souveran is my favorite wax, but it isnt really known for being durable. Anyway, I'd clay that puppy and go with a nice durable sealant for the winter time.
 
thxs, never tried Klasse or even Zaino, maybe ill check it out, ive used Meg #20 for my VW, seemed to work fine
 
You may also want to do a search on Collinite 845 IW (Insulator Wax) and see what people say about it. I tried it out this summer, it's easy to apply, and it lasts. I'm planning on using it this winter here in New England.
 
Man the old ones were so ugly... but the new ones are great looking.. I really like the new lineup of hondai's (sp?) asthetically.

you can detail right away. And yea, definitely clay... I clayed, glazed, and waxed (thanks to Neothin for the advice!) my tC less than a week... and believe me, the clay picked up quite a bit of stuff for being a brand "new" car (I got it the morning it came off the truck, 1.9 miles, so yea it was new :)). It was also my first detailing experience!
 
Why not test before you clay ?!

With a clean vehicle, just after a wash 'n dry, slip your hand inside a reglular plastic sandwitch bag and run it over the surface. Any bumps you feel suggest a need for claying.
 
this is true, im guessing most of the paint is not in need of claying, ill wash then inspect, odds are ill end up claying anyways
 
? should i go with Klasse AIO before the SG, or is it fine to go w just the SG, i may just go w Meg #20 for now, and get some Klasse next spring?
 
definitely clay. i just got done claying and doing a one-step (#66 topped with fx spray wax) and while my finish looked and feeled extremely smooth (was going to skip claying), there were plenty of contaminants that were picked up to my surprise. now she's smiling at me! ;)
 
just make sure to use only half the bar if possible (whole bar is not needed to do an average size vehicle), i dropped my first half on the ground! :(
 
ya ive heard of people dropping them, im currently using 3M cleaner clay, love it, original bar size was huge, i split it w a friend, then cut my half into 3,just to give you an idea of how big it was, blue in color, i havent tried any other clay, ill stick w 3M for now until i run out.
