Frequent Lurker...Finally Joined. (Just joined "Autopia.com" as well--same thread.)

Hi. I've scoured these forums many times for info for quite a long time now. I never joined because I'm not a professional detailer (more like an A.R.-hobbyist) and I therefore do not have much to contribute. Just lotsa reading and lotsa learning. I actually finally joined ("AF") mostly to make it easier to access the forums on "Tapatalk" on my smartphone. Since I joined there, I made sure to join here as well, as I find these two sites to be mutually complimentary.



I recently bought a "Brilliant Silver" 2003 Benz CLK Coupe, with near-perfect original paint!! Very minimal correction will be needed on this one, though I'm aware that M-B clearcoat is very hard and I may have my work cut out for me.



I do have a PC, some various orange, red, waffle, and wool pads, and two bottles of Meg's 105 and 205; though frankly I'm not too familiar with the proper use of this stuff. I don't know if it will be overkill for the minimal amount of correction my car currently needs, and I DON'T want to cause damage or remove too much clear for no reason. (Currently considering buying a Meg's "DA Microfiber 5" Starter Kit"...)



I've used a vast array of OTC waxes and sealants over the years, with predictably varying degrees of success. I'm just now beginning to discover some of the professional-grade products out there, and so far I can attest to their superiority. (Particularly, KAIO, KSG, and Collinite 845.) I just bought a Zaino "kit" (ZAIO, ZCS, Grand-Finale) and I can't wait to use it, when the weather gets warmer (I live in metro/upstate NY, and I don't have a garage)! ...I've also learned not to turn my nose up at the widely-hated NuFinish...it works great on wheels!



...Anyway, what I tend to value is user-friendly and reasonably novice-safe correction products, and user-friendly and LONG LASTING LSPs. Thanks for any tips or comments, and excuse the newbie-ness and long-winded post...

Try M205 on an orange pad to start with. Very easy to use and the orange pad might give you some cut on that hard clear.
 
Sounds like a good plan. I was also thinking...if that turns out to not be aggressive enough...is to start with 105 on an orange pad, followed by the ZAIO on another orange pad. What would you think of this idea?

M105 orange, followed by ZAIO on white.



ZAIO wont cut much, but since you are working with silver it will be ok. If it was black I would follow with M205/white.

Just make sure you put on your "protective gear", as like any pub (so to speak), it is wide open other than no hard trashing on those on the chat.

(I say that, but I get trashed as much as a garbage bag)
