Free Detail @ the Dealer-----VOLVO S80

Dropped my car off at the dealer today to get a routine service, and the car came back spotless! I talked to the service manager and he said that they detail the car every time it is brought in after 85K miles. I think I might be getting my oil changed every month :woot:

***I just realized that I joined this forum in 2004 and this is my 5th post! Thats really sad since I come here at least once a day.

Hold your enthusiasm until you see it in the sun. Dealership detailers are notorious for leaving rotary holograms all over cars.

Hopefully you don't have any problems.

That is very true! Well it doesn't really matter anyways....its gonna be pouring here in San Antonio for a week, kinda pissed.

Oh ya btw, I'm thinking about getting a PC but was wondering on the curves of my car. The lines on the hood would seem really hard to do with a PC.

That's what I'm thinking. I've *never* seen the dealer guys do it right.

And even if they do do it right, that guy will probably get fired for taking too long (longer than 10 minutes) and some hack will do it the next time.

I agree with the others. My brother sent in his FX35 to the dealer to get overspray 'fixed', (long before I knew about this site), and they RUINED his fender. Absolutely smothered in rotary holograms, swirls, etc. And you could only see it in the sun.

I am waiting for the right time to polish it out. Hopefully I might be getting a PC for my birthday..:spot

The best thing is that they think they are great detailers! :buffing:

Ain't that the truth!

I almost got in a fight with one guy trying to argue with me on how to properly detail an exterior! Slapping a half a bottle of wax on the paint and removing it with a dirty bath towel???? :shocked

Even my 4 year old son know's better! :grinno:

Yupp. It is more than likely 18 year old kids or a tunnel wash.

We too (when I worked at a dealership) had to wash EVERY service car. Needless to say, although your car comes back shiny, it was more than likely NOT treated well. It is hard to detail properly when two people are washing 15+ cars an hour.

My wife's Audi looked like a turd two weeks after we bought it used from the dealer. I did a REAL detail on it and it is look better then new. They use a heavy concealer wax that washed off easy. They look good on the lot.:hm

I hope yours has no problems though.

count me in as another skeptic. Unless they charged you several hundred dollars for a tuneup, I can't imagine them doing more than a 10 minute wash on the car. I did find it interesting that you said they do it to every car after 85K miles. What, do they figure a car doesn't need to be cleaned for the first five years?

Don't worry about the curves i just got my PC, and that is not a problem. Take it section by section and you will be fine.:bigups

OMG!!!!!!! Took it in the garage (since it raining outside) and turned on the xenon light I have...wells theres not only holograms, but swirl marks everywhere! What the hell is this, I just detail my car a couple of weeks ago. Seems like they stripped all the wax off and started doing the whole dirt towel treatment.

So what now...I don't want to send it back, they'll prob. just make it worse. Well I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend :(

LOL. That is so they cannot be accused of messing up brand new cars. :p

Well it's no surprise they did a half a$$ed job. There is no one to blame but yourself for not telling them to not wash your car or putting a note in your car.

What amazed me is how you made the effort to even show your excitement and post a thread about getting a dealer detail. No, not just an orderinary dealer detail, a FREE dealer detail (you think they gave your car special treatment?) Don't worry about it though, we all started somewhere, and it seems like you learned your lesson.
