Frankenstein Detail

OK. I can't remember if it was in the S2KI wash & wax forum or on Autopia, but someone recently asked me if I had ever used Zymol Vintage as a topper. I hadn't and was midly intrigued by the idea. So, I decided to give it a go. The only sealants I have on hand currently are Wolfgang and Menzerna FMJ. I couldn't decide which to try. So, I decided why not try them both? :D So, my car ended up being a patchwork of different product combinations (hence the Frankenstein reference).

So, here's what happened . . .

Washed with Zymol Clear
Clay with DP 4-n-1 Rinseless wash as lube
Polished with Menzerna FPII on white LC polishing pad
Applied Wolfgang and Vintage to hood and lower half of body
Applied FMJ and Vintage to trunk lid
Applied Vintage to uper half of body
Applied Wolfgang to windshield trim
Applied Megs #7 to front bumper (recent re-paint so no wax allowed)
Plexus on all exterior plastic
Applied Ragg Topp protectant to top
Cleaned wheels with Megs Wheel Brightener 3:1
Protected wheels with Wheel Wax and OCW
Dressed tires with Megs Endurance High Gloss

Sorry for the dark pictures it was pretty overcast today . . .

Interior was cleaned too!
Vacuum
Protect all rugs with 303 Fabric Guard
Dress all vinyl with 303 Aerospace protectant
Conditioned leather with Zymol Leather Conditioner
Polished guage cluster with Megs #17 and protected with Plexus
Glass cleaned with IG

Overall, I didn't think putting the sealant underneath the Zymol added anything. If anything I think it made the result worse by giving the paint a lacquered look which is typical of sealants in my experience. Next time, I'll just use the Zymol.

Mike!
First of all I think your car came out amazing!!! Second, I am glad that you experimented in trying Vintaaaagghe! with other products. I see that you didn't think that it necessarily added anything.

It has been my belief from my trials and successes with Zymol that the best results from the EGZymols will come from good prep work and only using one model of an EGZymol. You and I know that EGZymols need absolutely no assistance (in blowing away all comers!!). In fact, I would guage whether the sealants may in fact hinder the volume and color play that I've seen Vintaaaaghhe aptly demonstrate!!!

You may have seen it, but I have applied a lubricant-type of non carnauba coating (Sonus Acrylic Glanz) on the polished surface a couple of times with absolute satisfaction. It was thin enough not to hinder the surface, while providing the slight gloss and paint smoothness without distorting the color and surface b4 the EGZymol. To me, that is (one) of the areas of Zymol's strength...the color rendition, along with the ultra sharp reflective qualities, and second-to-none depth of reflection.

Its great seeing that you had tried this combo. As for me, I wouldn't even mix the different models of EGZymols, but on the other hand, I have to figure out how to finish using my left over Concours. That may end up going on my daily driver that I am prepping this weekend. Enjoy!

That's definately a thorough expirement you have going. The S2K looks great! Keep us updated on how it goes.

I couldn't agree more. There was a noticeable loss of depth and clarity from having the sealant underneath the Vinthaaaage.

Well..........looks like a re-clean is in order. Ah the price for perfection!!!! The experimenting is good, though, for knowledge.
