Fountain and a Searay 240

Yesterday was a beautiful day to detail. I had a couple of boats to detail which allowed me to enjoy the day!!

The Fountain was a 24' and a 1997 Model. The Searay was also 24' with a 2' swim deck and was over 15 years old! No before pics as I was busting my *** to get home in time for the Philadelphia Flyers playoff game. Start time was Approx 6:30AM and Finished around 1PM.

Process:

ONR Wash

OHC via Rotary/Wool Pad @ 1600

OP via Rotary/Black @1300

Megs Boat Wax by hand

First is the Fountain, Enjoy!!

Thanks for looking!!

SWEET work on those boats! I come from a family that always had cool boats up at our summer home in northern WI. My dad was looking at those baby Fountains back in the day, too bad they discontinued it shortly after it was introduced, I think the smallest they make is a 27' now...or at least it used to be. That owner better be loaded to pay $4 a gallon to run those tanks hehe. $200+ fill ups FTL.

why on earth would you wax a boat by hand????

I didn't, my helper did.

He doesn't know how to use the UDM or Rotary proficiently enough, so there was no way I'd let him run wild on the boat. I was busy polishing the second boat while he waxed the first and then followed up behind my polishing. I see no problem in doing it by hand.....as long as it isn't me.:cooleek:

Well, if these were paid details, then the quicker your helper was finished, the quicker you guys would have been done which would have equaled more $$ per hour.

Also, I was unaware that it was possible to not be proficient with a UDM, Finishing pad, and wax. I don't think it would be possible to use that combo incorrectly.

Boats look great though so at least the results were nice.

Yes, they were paid details and I understand what you're saying. But you fail to see that I still had another boat to polish. While I was polishing the second he was waxing the first. Had he been proficient with a UDM to do the waxing, he'd be sitting around waiting for me to finish the second. I'm not paying him to sit around.

I'm not sure if you've ever detailed a boat before, but there are plenty of small objects, rubber and chrome pieces, attenna, vinyl lettering, etc all over the boat. I'm not taking a chance that someone with no experience on a machine damages or rips off any of the above when my company name and reputation is on the line. Not to mention wax getting all over said plastic/rubber pieces. I'd gladly pay him for an extra hour than have to replace anything.

Eventually he will be trained so that I can maximize his production, but for right now, I'm not taking a chance. I think many will agree.

Thanks to everyone for the comments!

Hey....even I don't disagree with that now that you explain it. I just didn't understand it the first explanation. Regardless it looks great and I completely understand your reasoning for easing somebody into things.

Thanks for the kind words!! I guess I didn't clearly state my reasons, but now that we're in agreement....:xyxthumbs

Awesome work! I got my first boat job of the season this Friday. :xyxthumbs

Very nice!! Be sure to take some pics!! I actually enjoy doing boats more than cars:wow: Gel coat is much more forgiving than clear coat, so don't be afraid to slap a wool pad on the rotary and crank it up towards 18-1900 rpm's!
