I went to an automatic car wash today. It has been too cold here to wash my car (even with QEW) and I had so much salt on the car I figure the Auto was better than the salt staying on the car. If some of you are dissapointed I understand and am sorry.

I hear you about the cold and salt. I had so much salt on my car it was like sandpaper! I went to the carwash that you do yourself and boy did i scratch it up a bit! :angry can't wait for the warmer weather to fix the scratches. :)

Your right i think getting the salt off was a better choice if you had no other way :)

you are going straight to detailing hell ... :ghost :bye :nono :miss i hope it was worth it .. if you try this stuff you can redeem yourself

You're not the only one in that boat.

I'm in Iowa and its been cold and bad weather every day for a while.

Here they like to toss sand/salt on the roads and do little plowing at all, so you can imagine the mess it creates.

I gave my daily driver the full detail just before the snow fell last year, and take it to the local Auto Wash every week to keep it clean.

The Auto Wash I go to does great at washing, fairly well at keeping swirls and blemishes to a bare minumum, and it also has a thorough hot air drying system- which is the big plus for me with the cold! :)

Here's the real kicker- it does all of the above and....

It's not exactly touchless! :eek :)

The owners of the wash do however, maintain the wash system quite well, which is probably why it works so well.

Even so, for 2-3 months out of the year, I can live with some very minor swirls in exchange for a clean car.

It's a love-hate relationship. :D

It's back to another full detail and hand washing once spring and better weather are here though.

We brought Liz's Pathfinder through yesterday.

It really reminds me whey I'm a detailer. Such a shoddy job but it got the majority of filth off. There were still some blatant soil spots, but overall the car is actually blue again.

It was not touchless. No noted scratches, just some added marring.

No biggie, just some more stuff I have to polish out when it gets nicer. I don't mind it too much as it's the winter beater.

Haha personally I think its safer to get the salt off and risk marring. Salt and grime all winter will just destroy the finish like no other. Anyway its more fun with the PC. More products... more fun... :D

I got lucky... on saturday it finally got over freezing and I went to the u do it car wash and was able to get the heavy salt and all off the car and then I took it home and finished cleaning it with S & W. but while I was at the wash to see people literally attack their cars with that brush was almost more than i could bear :eek
One guy was even washing his SUV with about 4 inches of snow on the top of it :nono

Low 30's in Western New York so that means it's time for a bucket wash. No wind & blue skies so it was a perfect January day.

Hit the wand wash to get the majority of crude off & rinsed the wheelwells/undercarriage well. Washing with yellow dishwashing gloves makes it easy & effortless, my hands never got cold. Wash water was a bit warmer than usual but no where near H-O-T.

I was able to dry the car with no freezing 'cause it was sunny and the radiant heat kept the surface relatively warm while the air temp peaked at 34*.

My garage is unheated so I've got to keep my hose in the basement but I've got a tip for anyone who must store their hose in the basement during the winter. Whether you drain the hose or not before coiling it up, simply screw the ends together so you don't drip water all over the place when carrying it through the kitchen to the basement.

The #476s is holding up great at 3+ months, still produces high, tight beads and the surface is slick as glass. So far, it lives up to the hype.

Better clean than encrusted with dirt and salt I say.

Too cold here and I also hurt my hand. So touchless is the only option.

Yeah, it's garbage. But it gets it clean (sort of) and doesn't seem to scratch. Everything looks fixable by the spring when the PC gets its exercise.

I think it's better to risk some light marring and sratches from the auto wash than the rust the roadsalt can cause

SC430 sleeping the winter off in the garage, but the daily driver goes to Westport Wash/Wax which is one of the best in CT! Located off Rt1 between Crabtree Toyota and Bertuccis in Westport.

The owner was a former investment banker, a car collector and went to Germany to see what MB and Porsche uses. He brought the same system back to CT and opened the car wash site. It's the only one I can trust to do a great job w/o damage to the finish.

I hate winter as well!

Deanski
