Ford Plastic Cleaning Suggestions

I was wanting to get some opinions on good plastic cleaner/protectant for Ford plastic. I just did a detail on a 2 year old Explorer and iIused Meg's #40 Cleaner Protectant spray and no matter how long I would let it set and then wipe off, I would get the splochy look to the plastic. If I resprayed, let set, and then wiped dry, I still end up with splochy results.

I am really starting to hate fords with all the plastic, but, never the less, in the dry environment I am in, I need a good protectant that keep black plastic... black.

Any advise from my fellow detailers is great appreciated.

i wouldn't really let it set. Spray on corner of MF, assure complete and even coverage, and buff with clean portion of MF. BUT I can't recall if I've ever run into this problem on the Fords though.

Good luck

Try Plexus Plastic cleaner.

buff it in...spray and wipe faster than 30 second...you can use pressure and it will clean better too. i used to use it, but it got too expensive OTC stuff...so I started using APC to clean and OPP to protect...the finish comes out better, but the smell sucks...but it goes away in a day

Which plastic specifically? I use Clearkote's Vanilla Moose on all hard plastic. Does a great job removing oxidization and seems to last a lot longer than traditional protectants.

Hiya Scott. The plastic I am referring to is the off grey colored plasting bumpers and side molding that you see on the Ford SUV's these days. My wifes Expedition has the same plastic, but, since about day one i have used 303 or Sonus on it so it hasn't obtained a weathered look at all. Perhaps Meg's number 40 is a poor choice of product. I am starting to think I should use their (now discontinued) 38 bumper/tire gel . Another question I have is, what is a good spray for the wheel wells? Again, I used the 40, but that is probably best reserved as an interior plastic molding spray and claner.

My ford falcon top exterior trim which is urethane and unstable refuses to stay black or even brown as soon as water or shampoo comes into contact with it

It is not porous so no sealant will stick to it.

So I just quickly wipe them down with ultra gloss polish to restore them after each wash

Due to them being soft, renu it won't work either.

A pity really.
