Ford F-350 King Ranch

This was a two-man effort I did with my friend Lee, whose Mazda Miata was featured in this thread: Each one teach one - 2006 Mazda Miata. This truck belongs to his chiropractor, who just wanted a wash and wax and a general cleanup. This was quite the project, as it was a F-350 Quad Cab King Ranch Long Bed. And...it was black. Both the roof and the hood were re-painted as a result of hail damage, so we had to keep that in mind. It really wasn't in too bad of shape for being a black vehicle - some scratches running through and probably light swirling, but the worst part was some rather deep looking water spots on the hood, which I will get into later. We did the work in the client's garage, and since it was quite a cold day (I believe the high was like 32*), we elected to do a rinseless wash, during which Lee would do the washing (assisted by Dodo Juice Supernatural Tar and Glue Remover on the lower panels), and I would come behind him with the clay and Meguiar's Last Touch 1:1 (for additional lubricity) and then dry. This method worked very well, as we got the whole thing washed and clayed in roughly 2 hours. This was actually a job for a traditional wash, considering how dirty it was to begin with, but we made a rinseless wash work quite nicely. I think the whole job took around 5.5 - 6 hours (started about 10:30 AM, finished up at about 5 PM with a lunch break). On to the pics!

Process

Paint wash and decontamination
DP Rinseless Wash and Gloss (tires, wheels, and fender wells were done last using RW&G with appropriate tire and wheel brushes)
Dodo Juice Supernatural Tar and Glue Remover
Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay
Meguiar's Last Touch 1:1
Blackfire Clay Cleaner & Extender

Trim, chrome, tires, fender wells, and exhaust tips
Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant (most black trim)
Meguiar's Exterior Trim Coating (hard to reach black trim)
Klasse AIO (chrome)
P21S Polishing Soap (exhaust tips)
Optimum Metal Polish (exhaust tips)
Poorboy's World Bold N Bright (tires and fender wells)

Glass
Meguiar's Glass Cleaner concentrate 10:1 (inside and out)

Paint protection
DP Poli-Coat paint sealant on all painted surfaces (except hood and side mirrors), headlights, and taillights with 6.5 inch blue CCS pad on GG6
Optimum Poli-Seal on hood and side mirrors with 5.5 inch white CCS pad on Flex 3401

Interior
Wipedown with Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer
Vacuum
Clean windows

Door jams
Wipe down with FK 425

Befores

I think these were powder coated wheels, so we had to take a very mild approach to cleaning them. I need to get some of the P21S wheel cleaners.

can't remember which side of the truck this was - I think passenger side but I'm not sure

my finger pointing to the water spots

if you look to the left of the light you can see the water spots a bit better

after Poli-Seal. Yes, I know there are swirls in the paint, but I was only after the water spots and I accomplished that (even though removing the water spots and/or paint correction was not part of the deal), so that was good enough

Did it turn out perfect? No. That was not our objective. This truck is a daily driver that is also used as a work truck (in fact the client had just done some mudding and had hosed off the truck and cleaned out the bed of the truck because he had hauled wood in it). I wish I could turn out the awesome work that other guys on here do, but I look at every job as a chance to practice, to better myself and my skills. Unfortunately I do not get to do as much detailing as I would like, so my "perfect details" may be a while in coming. I think it turned out pretty good considering we were kind of forced to work with a rinseless wash. I will ask Lee what the client's response was, as we did it while he was at work and left before he got home. Comments, suggestions, and criticism is always welcome. This was actually my first "mobile job", my first time working with Poli-Seal, and the largest vehicle I have worked on to date. Thanks for looking!

That poor truck seemed to be very neglected =(

I would love to drive that around now!! (maybe new tires lol)

Great work

Great work there Shane, at least it got some TLC from you before it get's another workout by the owner.:bigups

Nice work Shane. Great job at tayloring the detail to the clients needs and staying within a realistic process for a daily driver! :props:

Thanks for the comments guys. I wish we hadn't been so confined by a rinseless wash so we could have done a better job, but Lee informed me that the client was very happy and will probably be telling other people about us, so that's all that matters. Some more business never hurts either! :bigups

Wow that truck looks great. I want a superduty so bad. Only 2 things I would do different no King Ranch, and a short wheel base. But that is soooo much paint to work on. Not sure if I missed it, but what did you end up using on those seats?

Nice job Shane!!! You did great work and gave the customer exactly what he was after.

1. Did you use anything on the leather seats? I have heard that Ranch King leather is un-coated and special.

2. Why did you use poliseal on the hood and not DP policoat? I would think that policoat would be more durable.

Great work Shane! The paint looks really good even for a 1 step AIO.

That thing is a beast. May I ask how many hours did it take you to detail the entire car?

Good work shane, I too am curious about the leather seats. I have never been brave enough to clean these types of seats because I did not know what to use. A ford dealer told me they sell a special cleaner for these seats, but I don't know how well it works, especially on neglected seats.

Great work Shane but I think I would have rather done the silver truck in the back ground. Ford has a special cleaner for the King Ranch seats.
