Folex saves ruined interior carpet! (see pics)

I wanted to share some great results I had.

Accidental gasoline stain over three years ago. Over the years it has gotten progressively worse with dirt being ground into it. Read about Folex on this forum and actually bought it a while ago to do spot cleaning on on my car interior carpets in a different car.

A week ago I thought there was nothing to lose so I tried it on a small spot. It worked great. I worked on it another night and got it all removed. Then, I figured I'd try learning how to shampoo an interior carpet. I was very pleased with the results.

Process:

- Vacuumed carpet

- spot cleaned the very large stain with Folex

- Mixed up Simple Green in a bucket 30:1 and applied it by larges sponge to the carpet making sure it got rubbed in well.

- Used scrub brush and worked the whole area well.

- extracted with wet/dry vac

- Filled pail with very warm water. Used large terry cloth towel soaked with water to saturated carpet after first extraction.

- working in sections, I extracted the warm water to remove extra dirt but more importantly to remove any remaining APC residue.

Hope this is helpful to other newbies like the many other threads have been to me.

Here are the pics:

So I tried a test spot and it turned out very well ( area circled in red )

50/50 shots. This kept me motivated

Decided to shampoo the whole section of carpet with a Simple Green solution ( 30:1). I even made those extraction stripes. Not bad for a newbie!!

Here's the crud that came out from the extraction process. There was more than this but I had to dump it once.

Thanks again for every one that posts on this site. I have learned so much and am now comfortable to tackle things I wouldn't have even considered before.

wow ! Very nice write-up my friend!

I just added your thread to my favorite!

Thanks a lot for sharing this with us!

Where can i find Folex ? sold in Canada?

Just an FYI, I know it's too late but for the future. If you didn't already do it, the best place to dump that nasty water is the toilet. That way it will go to the treatment plant for processing.

100% better. I can't quite tell from your after picture if the stain lighted ALOT, or was totally removed. In the picture you can still see a little of the shadowing from the stain. Be thankful that this spot wasn't in a high traffic area or it would have been ground in pretty bad. Great work.

I had the same reaction when I used Folex. I went for the gallon right away.

Not sure where you can buy it in Canada, but in the US Home Depot and Lowes sell it.

Thanks for the nice responses everyone, I appreciate it. I just felt like I needed to contribute because I have learned so much from Autopia!

I bought mine at Home Depot in AZ. I have also seen it at other places.

Thanks for the tip. Actually I did dump it into a utility sink we have as I have been reading here about doing what you can to protect the eco system. This stuff was really nasty!

If you are referring to the 50/50 shot you are right as there was some shadowing due to the wetness of folex. After I did it I let it wait a few days for the folex to dry and it seems to be 99% removed. After I shampood it I think it is gone. After it dried I had a few people look at it from different angles and they could not tell me where they thought the outline of the old stain was.

Has anyone had any problems using simple green diluted 30:1 to clean mildly dirty carpet? I made sure I rinsed it real well as I heard if you don't it attracts dirt quickly. I am trying to use up the SG first before I start using my new Megs APC + that I just bought. Also, would Woolite have been a substantially better choice? Thanks.

I'm sure you can order it online and have it shipped to your house in Canada. Folex is a must have in my arsenal. has been for years because it's inexpensive and it works great.

HD: In the USA, you have to go to the flooring/carpet section to find it. It's not in the janitorial supply area.

Thanks Tom - I will check next time I'm in HD here, although searching their website doesn't bring it up:

Homedepot.ca - Search - folex - Building Supplies,Indoor Living,Outdoor Living,Tools & Hardware,Plumb Qwik,IBERVILLE,Schlage,Roscan,Husky,Dremel,WaterMaster

Horrible search function on the HD website though! Brings tons of products with 'flex' for some reason.
