Foam or Terry for applying 3M

Hi all - I am planning to use the 3M SMR for dark color cars this weekend. I am applying by hand and have read that it should be applied in a straight line motion (back & forth) none of the 'wax on wax off' - circuler(sp) motion.(karate kid nonsense)

I plan on using the viking pads(ones with the hand grip). Is that ok or is the consesus around here to use the terry pads???

Thanks :bounce :bow

I usually apply SMR with a folded terry cloth. The terry cloth creates more friction than foam and helps break down the product. Give it a try. Good luck....Andrew

My votes for a terry cloth cvered foam pad.

Good luck with your SMR project I'm sure you'll like the results.

If your going to apply by hand I would use cotton (doesn't matter if it's foam or cotton, I prefer cotton) but more importantly; try to find a very comfortable applicator. I have big hands and my hand gets that "charlie horse" feeling in no time. Wicked annoying when your detailing by hand because it takes so long.
