Foam applicator pads out of washer

I have a quick question on the yellow foam hand applicator pads. I threw a couple in the washing machine with some towels and they went from yellow to a dark greenish/brownish color. I don't know if its because of dyes in the towels or product (although the products I used were like creamish color). Are these still alright to use or are they ruined? Also, is this the proper way to wash these or is there a better way? How should I dry them (right now I"m letting them air dry)?

Thanks in advance

I've never "washed" my foam applicators... the few I have are cleaned the same way I clean all my applicators... couple shots of simple green, aggitate, and rinse completely with water. Air dry.

That will not affect the quality and/or purpose of the applicator. I throw mines with the towels and they do fine! The coloring is just the dye of the towels, not big deal.

If I throw mine in the wash (on the gentle cycle only), I typically put them in a washing machine inside a mesh bag like this one. While it can't do anything to protect against bleeding colors, it helps protect them from the sometimes harsh agitation of the washer's rinse and dry cycle.

The only thing I put in the washing machine are my MF towels. The foam buffing pads and wax applicators get a squirt of dawn rubbed into them and then they soak in a bucket of really warm water for about an hour. The buffing pads go face down, and after they soak, all of the embedded waxes and compounds settle to the bottom of the bucket. These I air-dry. If I need them right away, I slap them on the PC and spin them dry. It seems to help the buffing process when the pads are slightly damp.

I wouldn't want that goop clogging up the washing machine, the wife would have my hide.
