Fixed my sunroof and got my best finish yet!

Managed to get my sunroof replaced Thursday evening by my good friend Miles - quick jaunt to Ringwood cross country :D and £35 later, new roof, oil & filter change and new gearbox mount and we're sorted. Just now needed to fix the paint damage where all the glass collapsed/smashed.

Consulted Johnny and decided to blast the entire car with the Karcher rather than foam it as I wanted any bit of glass gobe totally. Did this for 5-10 minutes just to be safe, then Hyper Wash via Karcher foam gun.Steel wool to sunroof as it had dried paint on it.

The damage was actually a lot less than I'd initially thought and was easily fixed via Makita & Menzerna. There are a few deeper scratches remaining but nothing that can't be sorted. HD Cleanse'd the roof then 2 coats of Carbon and decided to Carbon the whole car again (well, why not :D ).

I then headed off to my favourite photoshoot venue, via a few local B roads and including a rather spirited 10 minutes with a CTR ;) for some photos.

I realised today that I don't think I can take the 205's paint a great deal further. I honestly believe I've almost reached the ultimate and I'm not going to say "it was because of XYZ" but months of careful work, reading what has worked for others and a lot of trial and error. The photos speak for themselves IMHO. A bit of a sad day as I always thought I'd be seeking the best finish I could get and I believe I now have it!

Sweet! Nice to see an older car in such excellent condition. :)

What mods have you done to your car?

Thanks Scott.

Mods:-

Engine - original 1580cc 8 valve unit pulled out and replaced by 1905cc 16 valve twin cam unit from a Peugeot 405 MI16 (big 4 door saloon). Straight fit as engine mounts are identical. Reangled manifold to save bulkhead modification and original inlet manifold as shortened version robs some low end torque. Radiator moved forward and fan cowling cut down to fit. Original 1.6 gearbox retained to give maximum accelaration although top end suffers (in theory 130 max). Bottom end rebuilt with new big end shells. All fuel lines replaced with braided s/steel. Green air filter. Superchipped ECU (came with the engine).

Suspension - front replaced entirely with Bilstein dampers, SBC springs, Group N top mounts (solid). Rear torsion beam replaced with refurbished item from the 1900cc version of my car so now running discs not drums

Brakes - standard discs F/R with EBC Greenstuff pads and Goodridge braided brake lines although I'm hunting for some suitably bigger brakes which can still fit beneath a 14" wheel to retain the sleeper look.

Power - as standard the engine makes 160bhp but the ECU could add a further 5-10% in theory. A rolling road session is planned for early 07 but in real terms it'll keep pace with an 06 Golf GTI DSG in "Drive" and it'll show a clean pair of heels to a CTR. Remember, this car weighst in at around 900kgs so it's very light.

The best bit is the induction roar as you hit 4000rpm which just builds between there and redline at around 7000 revs - she'll wheelspin in 4th under maximum throttle (happened once and scared the beejeezus out of me!!!(
