Fixed a badly detailed Jeep....a lesson in getting what you pay for

This forum member reached out to me after having an amateur detailer try to correct the paint on his Jeep. Not only was the correction performed badly, but numerous areas were not done at all. Detailing done cheap has its consequences.

Most of the exposed screws had heavily built up compound and/or wax residue. The textured satin top had been waxed despite the owner's request that it not be. This resulted in pretty bad staining, a good amount of which would not come out. The areas that had been corrected were heavily covered in DA micromarring as the previous detailer could not handle the hard clear on the Jeep. Other areas were not done at all. It was originally scheduled for a one step correction but once I saw its condition I knew it would not restore the finish enough. So I brought out Ryan to help me restore it as best as possible. We logged in a significant amount of time to fix this Jeep.

Upon arrival it was pretty dirty

The front end had been heavily corrected and heavily marred without being finished down. Much micro marring/haziness was present.

With most of the compounding finished, Ryan and I took it out in the sun for some pics

My favorite shot with the owner looking pleased at the freshly restored Jeep

Thanks for looking!

Nice work Jeff.

I wonder, would something like PreWow or CG water spot remover help to clen the wax residue off the top and then something like Solution Finish help to restore the color back to normal.

Handled like the pro I know you are! Just FIY having spent some time with Jeff and getting to know him as a friend, he is hands down the best detailer I've ever had the pleasure of working with. This guy consistently puts out some of the best work in business! :bow:yourrock

Awesome save and amazing work! I love the attention to the details of the residue in the screws. It's the little things that truly set the great details apart from the rest!

Out of curiosity, what did you use on the wax staining? APC?

Sorry I missed all the replies! Thanks everyone for the kind words!

The textured top....used apc, wax remover, solvent, and a few other things. Got ~60% of it out. Going into it, I told the owner it may not all come out. He was happy with the result, though I still wanted better out of it.

Couple of thoughts:
First - excellant work!
Maybe try Mother's Trim Cleaner? - sure looked good in that other tread here.
I showed this to my neighbor down the block that speaks Jeep - has about 6, 2 running
and he shook his head, muttered something about poser, and why da hell you wash a Jeep anyway? I have to add that his pride and joy gets a coin wash only to clean the mud off. Crazy dude but can fix anything........

Did you try steam and clay? I know I've clashed some pretty strange stuff on texture an it seems to get it out. The steam another big go to and lastly if all else fails, I resort to m39 and maybe car-pro trix.

Maybe he should start with his 4 downed Jeeps lol.

As for posing....This rig sees off road. Regardless....his money is as good as the next guys....

Tried, and failed. Though you can't clay that texture...it would just make it worse.
