First try with Collinite 845

I figured I'd give 845 a try on my dd, a '06 Gran Cherokee. I'm looking for protection from the harsh WNY winters and from what I've read, 845 looks like a good choice. Recently I've read a few reports of hazing and difficulty removing but I experienced none of that. I used my GG DA with a 5.5 black CCS pad. Warmed the bottle in hot water which got rid of the chunks and applied. A little goes a LONG way. First time using a DA to wax and I'm hooked. What a time saver. Did one large panel at a time and removed with a microfiber towel. Zero issues. Looking forward to my first beading experience. :D Sorry, no pictures. I'm too dang lazy.

I'm not against 845, but I had read that even an ONR detail spray ratio can remove it, after that I was turned off from even trying it. It supposedly won't do that with 476 aka 885...glad you had a good experience though OP.

I would be surprised if an ONR spray would remove 845. I have been using it for years on my boat. That stuff is practically bullet proof.

I do not recall where I read it, but it was someone who had tried it over their 845 just for a qd and it wound up taking it off. I haven't verified it, but even so, for some reason a paste wax just seems like it would be more durable.

845 has been my go to sealant for quite some time, good durability IME and easy to spread/remove when applied thin. Very forgiving with trim as well.

I did notice that it didn't leave marks on the trim that I could notice. Big plus in that department!

I like this stuff. I just started putting it on the semi trucks i detail. If I remember, I will email the colinite rep about the one removing the wax. That wears like iron.

rotenll- Glad it turned out so well.

Better get another coat or two on it if you want it to last through winter, and yeah it does work well on trim.

Yeah, the older ONR (v2.0) was absolute murder on Collinite waxes (both 845 and 476S IME). I've heard that the current version of ONR is Collinite-friendly, but I don't use it (IUDJ works fine on Collinite). You might also consider Meguiar's UQW which works great as a drying aid on Collinited vehicles.

I'm shocked you didn't give FK1000p a plug, especially for a winter warrior
Personally, being close to you Rottenll (Ontario ), I'm using KAIO and 2 coats of FK1000p to make it through our winter. Hope the 845 works for you

Heh heh...looks like you've got my number :D

But hey, if somebody's happy with [whatever they're using] then I'm not gonna be a wet blanket. I was a happy Collinite user for ages and am only now switching my last Collinited car over to FK1000P (that's assuming it'll play nice with the underlying product, we'll have to see...I might end up having to stick with the Collinite if it doesn't work out).

DGRW+AW (and straight AW) works well with 845. BFRW does not play nice with 845.

That's good info, thanks for posting it! Funny how certain rinseless products (still) aren't Collinite-friendly, but I guess all they care about is compatibility within their product line.

Nice same color as my 09 Jeep. Collinite 845 is still holding up strong on my roof. The rest of my Jeep is done with FK1000P. No one's noticed my roof is topped with a different LSP even I can hardly tell until it gets wet (larger beads with 845 than FK1000P). I did 845 on the roof because it's hard to reach and I wanted to use a DA to apply, I also didn't want to stain the roof rails again (no rack on the SRT8), and most importantly I wanted to compare look and durability to FK1000P for my self.

Compared to FK1000p, 845 is slightly less glossy but gives the paint more of a glow (muted flakes in my case), it was also much easyer to apply and remove being liquid. 845 doesn't seem to self-clean at all (excluding the first few weeks) and needs a scrubbing to get beading back in full effect. So far it holds up extremely well with no signs of failing (4 moths after application, daily driven, outdoor parked). All wax's and sealants I apply to the roof seam to last 6 to 9 months easily.

I also used 845 on my wheels (applied last year during winter while the winter wheels were on) and it appears to have held up the entire time (or it's the DuraBrite coating doing it's job) the beading and sheeting on my wheels is incredible...

Hope you enjoy the 845 on your Jeep as much as I have on mine!

The way things are looking I might have to drive off island to get a work platform -> I went to buy a "work platform" from Canadian Tire a few times but there either out of stock or pretend not to speak English (it's odd being the minority)...

I ended up putting a very small dent in the top of the E pillar (still trying to forget it's there) leaning to reach the middle last time I applied by hand. At 5'11'' I can kinda reach, lol

Luckily no one but me sees the dent (more of a warp), as it's very very shallow and doesn't show in pictures.

Just decided that I'm keeping a few areas of the '93 Audi 845 after all...easiest approach for those places even if my plans to FK1000P the rest of it work out (still gotta see how that goes).

4u2nvinmtl- You really do need a work platform...I can't imagine trying to inspect/correct the roof without one. But then I wouldn't even want to wash/dry the roof without a few platforms.
