First tornado watch!

Hey,

Just had my first tornado watch! Kids were in bed (first day of school is tomorrow) and I thought, "How great is this? A tornado on the night before school." My kids would be in counseling for years!

Humidity is a *****! Typical Californian, I left the windows open day and night and now my couches and such are damp. Locals told me to close the windows and run the AC. Got it going now-just feels weird to not use the AC for temperature reasons.

Hey, there are Bengal signs everywhere and I was wondering if a Browns fan should hang his banner on his door? I was thinking that my banner with my CA plates may not be a good way to meet my neighbors. Football is huge here in Dayton-high school colors are everywhere. I live near Centervile High if anyone knows where that is.

So far the big difference here is weather and fast food- it's on every block. There are about three self-serve car washes, each with two touchless bays. Centerville has one full service in a large shopping area. Has not looked that busy yet.

Looking forward to a fun year living in the midwest and attending some detailing schools and trade shows.

Yes, for one year. I grew up in SB and lived there since birth. I wanted a different experience for my family before my kids were in high school.

I have family near Cleveland so I can see them this year. I can also afford to work part-time and be with the family more. It's very different so far. I had my Ramones CD on in the car and a family turned away from my car and just stood there until I drove away. That's a new one for me.

Luckily, I can still get the towels for a bit more sent to Cleveland- funny that they still go to Long Beach and then are trained to Ohio.

I might apply at a local carwash down the road to get some hands-on at a full serve. I also plan to attend a few trade shows.

My wife is being great as she LOVES the west coast and has no friends here yet. We are picking up my two boys soon and can't wait to hear about their first day of school.

Awesome! Im also looking to relocate, but not quite as far east as you. More so in the Co., or adjoining states. You know as well as I, the cost of comfortable living on the west coast. Its abosolutely rediculous what one has to spend, in comparison to areas your currently residing in. $200/250K in Co. wouldnt get you a 1000 sq ft condo in So Cal, but could get you 2500, maybe a 3k sq ft home! Oh, you also get 4 seasons........

Yes, I know. You are in TO and I was in SB. A 2 bd. fixer is 799k! I am renting a four bed 3 full bath home for $1400 per month- about 2200 sq. ft. with a 2 car garage, family room, dining room, and living room. My home in SB is renting for $3000 per month and is a 3 bd. 1 bath with one car garage and about 1200 sq. ft. Gas here is $2.49 per gal. When I left CA. a week ago wasn't it around $3.45 per gallon?

The only thing more expensive here so far are the quality groceries like fruit, imported beer, and soy products. You get funny looks when you ask for nachos without meat. Ohio was just listed as one of the more fattest states in the country while Colorado was the leanest. Although, I do see a lot of people running during the day and the high school sport programs look incredible.

My kids liked their first day of school, but with only one PE period a week, I can see some differences in the coming weeks. In CA. it is madatory to receive around 120 min. of physical ed. per week. Not sure about here, but only one day seems a bit mild when you consider the winter months. Also, in CA. schools supply the materials and you have to buy them here. Being a 13 yr. teacher in CA. I think CA. does a much better job at education than what you read in papers. I had AC in my room in SB and my kids do not have it here. Not sure how they can focus when the humidity is high. I would fall asleep.

So far, I have counted 5 car washes within a few miles. I have yet to see 2 cars at any of them at the same time. Maybe it is more seasonal.

Sounds like your (so far, winter hasnt hit ya) enjoying it! Gas has dropped to below $3.00! (Like thats acceptable!?)

I cant imagine any school in the nation not having A/C for the kids and teachers. Who can function when its 80-90 deg's in a classroom?

Obesity is running rampid nationwide, sad state of truth. The most economicaly sound nation in the world, and we have the some of the lower levels of education, obesity and poor health in general (does that have anything to do with skyrocketing health care premiums?) and some of the largest issues, still unaddressed? But its America, and I love her......

Time for a change, just not sure what Im going to do for income! Ive worked a "9 to 5" for so long, change would be difficult....

Rob, you'd do yourself a favor if you lay out the bucks for a dehumidifier or two, even with the AC. We have one in the living room and have to empty it sometimes every day, even with central AC.

It sounds like you have yet to experience the joy of 100% humidity with temps 95-100+ in the summer. ;)
