Hello Everybody, I just started to get involved in this scene, and I must say I'm seeing some beautiful work. I'm seeking some information on what I need to do to get started in fixing up my personal vehicles, (not professionally) I currently own

'97 Dodge truck (sons vehicle) white... clearcoat gone in spots, some rust

"98 Dodge Straus (daughters car) pewter... some collision damage on nose, color doesn't show dirt or defects well.

"02 Dodge Stratus (wifes car) Dk Blue... Some dings and rock chips, not really too bad

'04 Chryler 300m (my car) some scratches and swirls, otherwise good.

I already ordered the Sonus leather interier kit, and I want to find out what products and procedures work best on Mopar paint. You guys are the best source of knowledge I've run across. Thank's in advance

well the first question is what products do you own so far?

i would start by investing in quality washing products like two 5 gallon buckets, a few nice sheepskin/lambswool mitts, a good car wash, and some qualitly MF's including a waffle weave drying towel. then i would make the larger investment in a Porter Cable, buffing pads, a quality 2 step polishing system, and some quality waxes or sealants of your choice. theres obviously a lot of other stuff that i didnt mention so just keep doing your research and youll find out what else you may want to get. goodluck :up

Welcome! Mopar paint isn't different to speak of than a lot of other paint out there. In fact, I expect you'll find quite a bit of difference between your vehicles once you start assessing them carefully, like one is more prone to scratches than another.

My best suggestion is to do a little reading around here because you can receive a different opinion from everyone who gives you an answer. If you're looking to buy strictly OTC products, Mequiars, Mothers, and Duragloss (if you can find it) are good choices. If you're willing to order stuff, the choices get a lot more complicated.

Keep in mind that preparation is 95% or more of the final result. That's where your study here will pay off the most.

Thanks Sean, Right now I have a lot of the commercial products mostly Meguires. Drying with chamois. I was planning on getting a clay system, and a PC to get started. I'm wondering how idiot proof the PC is. I have no idea how hard or soft the Chrysler paint is. Should I start out working on the kids beaters for practice? or should I just jump right in on the dark blue Stratus. I've read that the PC is forgiving, but I don't want to be the idiot that proves them wrong.LOL

There is so much info here, I have a hard time figuring out the best method for me. Should the products be mixed and matched? or one brand used together as a system?

Thanks, Lance
