First time with PC & VM Hand Glaze

Ladies and Gentleman,

Many thanks to all those who have been raving about the merits of buying a PC.

I bought mine this weekend after spending hrs trying to remove swirl marks by hand. As others have said, this is probably the best car related product I could have bought this year.

This post covers both the PC and the products I have been using to get the shine I wanted, and also compares those products to what I have used in the past.

The PC was bought from Lows priced $109.

I used the White foam bad that is supplied in the box.

The Car was washed with Clearkote Car wash.

Comparison: I always used Autoglym Car wash in the past. Initial impressions

Were that this was as good if not a little better.

Vanilla moose Hand glaze was applied with the PC.I started

Applying with the PC set at Num 3 and finished off at num 6.

Camparison: None. I have never used a glaze before, just polish and Wax.

I thought this was excellent stuff. I found it did an excellent job of getting rid of all

But the deepest swirls when used in conjunction with the PC.

Swirls are no longer visible in direct sunlight.

Smooth dark finish.

(about an Hr to get 90% of the swirls out of the Bonnet

And about 45mins for the boot).

I tried using Moose wax next. I found that this took away some

Of the depth achieved with the VM Hand glaze so I didn’t continue with it.

I then applied Autoglym Super resin Polish to get the depth I needed. Autoglym on top of VM hand glaze gave me exactly the depth and smoothness I was looking for.

This was done by hand as I only had the one Foam pad for the PC.

Finally I topped off with a couple of coats of s100.

I now have smooth just washed look (VM Hand Glaze), *Real old school depth (AutoGlym), and a very reflective shimmer ( s100)

· Those of you who have looked at a Aston , Bentley, or Rolls in the show room might notice that the paint often has depth with warmth rather than the coldness I see in the prepared paint of some German Marques.

I wanted this depth with Warmth on my Mercedes, I hadn’t been able to achieve it with Autoglym Super resin polish on its own, but I got what I was looking for when applying the Autoglym after VM hand galze.

·

Tires were dressed with eagle one.

shahab1-nice work and nice car!

I haven't had any problems with the VM/MW combination, but I think Moose Wax works best by itself and VM works best with a carnuba topper, which brings me to this:

You might be interested to know that I have been testing a carnuba wax that Clearkote is probably going to come out with. It is petroleum based like VM and MW, but has no cleaners and carnuba has been added. So far, so good. Very rich wet and deep look.

Beautiful car and a great job on the detail. You meantioned that you used the included polish pad on your pc. Did you run into a problems with this pad? Others on here have recommended against using it. I'm waiting on some I ordered from CMA before taking my pc on it's maiden voyage across the painted horizons of my vehicles.

p.s. I got my pc at Lowes too...gotta' love those guys for a good deal!

Scott:

Let me know when ClearKote comes out with that product.

I'm looking for a very specific kind of shine. One that helps recreates the elegance of classics on modern paint. Thanks for putting me onto both VM hand glaze & s100.

Indy:

Its amazing what the right color, wheels and trim can do for a mass produced car. This model is an E430 sport.

Yes I did notice bits flying off the white pad that comes with the PC. I had read about this on the forum so I wasn’t too alarmed. It didn’t diminish the quality of the shine, and as a freebee it performed rather well. Long term use will definitely require getting hold of higher quality pads.

Here is another picture with the bits of pad on the bonnet.

Thanks for the compliments.

Scott,

I wouldn't describe my experience with the vm/mv combo as a problem, it just didn't give me the look I had in my mind.

The VM made the car look super clean and dark, but not overly reflective or deep.

The autoglym Polish on its own adds lots of depth, makes the black paint dark but doesn’t provide that just cleaned look, and also seems to attract some dust.

The s100 on its own makes the paint super reflective, almost as if it was a mirror it also adds some depth, but doesn’t bring out the darkness.

I tried VM/Megs Gold class too, but again the Megs took away some of the darkness from the VM.

I hadn't thought of using the Autoglym on top of VM until I read a post of yours where I think you used VM/ Final Polish/s100.

I didn't have any final polish so I used the Autoglym instead.

Bingo! I got exactly what I was looking for.

By the way, I'm very pleased with the ClearKote car shampoo too.

Autoglym products aren’t easily found in the States so I'm glad to have found a super alternative.

shahab1 - Thanks for posting this, nice job on your Benz. I'm a big fan of both SRP and VM, but never thought of combining them. I figured the SRP would just remove the VM, didn't expect the synergy you got.

I know just what you mean about the warm, deep look, especially on British cars. I'm always looking for the perfect combo for my XJS- now you've given me another option to consider.

I think this combo would look awesome on a xjs.

The SRP is supposed to have some sort of mild

cleaning properties but if you apply it by hand with a

foam pad and light pressure it should not mess up the WM underneath.

BTW, where do you get SRP from in the States?

Shahab

As I recall, I got my SRP from either CMA or, uhm, I forget :o . I seem to be one of the few US Autopians using it.

I found the SRP to be pretty aggressive on my XJS's single stage paint, LOTS of color transfer to the pad if I wasn't VERY gentle(yeah, I'd polished it well, so it wasn't oxidation or anything else that needed removed), hence my concern about removing the VM. I know what you mean by a gentle hand application, though. SRP can behave in different ways depending on how you use it.

I previously had SRP+Souveran on it, now have the VM+P21S. Neither is QUITE right (for me) on the metallic gray/dark silver. I may well give the VM+SRP+[whichever wax] a try the next time I do the "big job"- which I hope isn't for a while! I started cleaning it up in early April, and I STILL don't have it ready for the road! I just work on it when I have the time and inclination. As you can guess, it's a garage queen/time machine, rather than real transportation.
