First time using Duragloss - I'm a believer

I picked up a gallon of 902 and a bottle of 951 aquawax a few weeks ago when I ran out of Optimum and hadn't gotten a chance to use it yet. My wife's Accord was trashed as usual and I had some free time this afternoon and decided to give it a go. Wow, 901/902 is some fantastic shampoo. Felt as good to me or better than Optimum (my go to for years) and Griots (at least on par with both). I used it in the foam gun to start, then in the bucket and it was extremely slippery and had just the right amount of suds, I'm sold.

I also got in on the Optimum sample pack deal on Amazon, so I did a little side by side with Optimum Car Wax and Aquawax. I have used OCW in the past, but not for a couple years and I gotta say that I liked Aquawax a whole lot more. I was getting a lot of streaks that wouldn't come out with OCW but AQW was flawless. I gotta say I'm very impressed by Duragloss, amazing how cheap it is and that you can get it over the counter as well.

DG makes some incredible stuff, for sure. AW is a must-have, although I don't feel it lasts as long as OCW. Car looks great, too!

Am I missing something with the OCW application? When I used it a few years back, I don't remember getting streaks like I did today. With AW I misted it while still wet, wiped it down with a towel, moved on then came back and went over the whole car with a dry towel to get the haze and it was great. I did the same thing with OCW and it didn't play so nice. Maybe the sample I have is old or something?

You can't go wrong with that DG shampoo via foam gun. It was the best OTC shampoo I ever bought. A gallon lasted be sone time too abd perormance maintained even when heavily diluted in the foam gun. If I can find a new local place that has it I'll definitely get more Either DG or GG are my staple car washes.

Phishy,

I am a big Duragloss fan myself, especially their car was soap, of all my car wash soaps it's the one I reach for most often.

Actually I don't think I've ever been disappointed with anything from the DG line-just a great, reasonable priced, line of products from their soap, to sealants, to their tire shine.

I too got in on the Optimum Amazon sampler pack (great deal) and have used their car wash soap which is a really nice wash soap either with the foam gun or a wash bucket. Even mixed 1/2 oz per gallon I don't think I've ever used a soap with as much suds as Optimum. I left my mitt in the wash bucket overnight (not something I do) and I still had suds the next day! It's not quite as lubricious as Duragloss but I really liked it just the same.

I am going to try OCW next and will compare it against Aquawax which looks fantastic on my Yellow Super Bee. Kinda wish I didn't do Opti-seal on it recently as Aquawax really darkens the Yellow nicely.

I am currently doing a test on all three of my cars with Optimum tire shine/Stoners MSLT/ and Duragloss 253 split into three sections on each tire and will report back once I see which one holds out the longest, Hurricane Irene will really put each to the test!

Jeff

PS: Your car looks great in the pic.

Honestly, I don't think you're missing anything. OCW has a bit of a reputation for streaking, which is the only real negative it has. As long as you apply it out of the sun, it shouldn't be a problem.

Man OCW is the same way for me, sometimes very on and off easy, other times streaks like mad, i think it's the humidity. UQW is good stuff though,.

Wait till you try 253 Tie and rubber dressing and 921 Duragloss FC (Fast Clean & Shine)

AW is awesome, especially on lighter colored metallics. OCW will go home with its tail between its legs, but then it really excels on darks. I really don't have streaking issues, but I'm stingy with OCW and usually use it when the car is just slightly damp. After going back and forth a bit with a few people about streaking, I finally was able to reproduce it. My new Corvette has been parked more than driven and I've QD'd it quite a few times without a wash in between and finally got streaking!

Did you guys let OCW dry on the surface? The instruction actually state that not to let it dry on the surface and I had streaking issue only when I did so. Just thought i should mentioned this.

Sounds like you have the original version of OCW if it was a few years ago, especially if it was a sample. Easy way to get rid of old stock the detailing supply companies have on hand.

I've used Z8 (Zaino's version of AW) side by side with OCW v2 and OCW was noticeably richer looking and slicker.

To the OP. It is good that you found products that work for you. Big money saver there :).

I will agree on AW951. Very happy from the results and on par with my FK425 (perhaps stick to FK on sealants and AW on carnaubas).

Just used 901 to compare it to FK118 (my favourite) and Griot's. I will say more to a more relevant thread, but overall I was not overly excited. I will give it another go though on hopefuly a more challenging wash session (i.e. dirtier) I will do in the next 2 weeks. In any case, it looked very potent (as in could take more dilution and still keep going) for the same amount per gallon against the other 2.

+1, although AW seems to hold up well for me.... But I haven't used OCW in a while due to it being tempermental at times (streaking).

So Z8 = AW? :D
