Hello. I stumbled upon this site and the info is great. I did some searches to find answers to some of my questions. I have been using zaino on 2 black vehicles that I have and I use Meguiars 2.0. I did some detailing for a few years when I was younger. I use a Makita with hi/low speed for buffing.

My question is with the washing techniques. I currently use a "virgin" hair brush to wash with(about 24" long brush with very soft horsehair bristles) I dry with a chamoile(sp?). You guys find that the wash mitts do a better job?? I do get fine scratches but just thought it was a part of owning a dark vehicle. THANKS

Hey Bud! Welcome to Autopia.

For the most part, I try to keep my brush use to the lower body work. There's too great a risk of getting grit trapped in a brush to use on the top panels.

I have a true sheepskin mitt that I've owned for years. It seems to do the best job for me on my black car. I got a new sheepskin mitt a couple weeks ago (http://www.properautocare.com/blacsheepwas.html), much softer that my old one, but I have not had a chance to try it yet.

Bud, Welcome..

I use two mitts, one mitt is for the top part of the car, the second mitt is for the bottom where most of dirt is....i don;t want to bring

that dirt up to my hood, doors , ectectect...also use the search

option to find more detailed info...

Swirls are something you deal with when you own a car, no matter what color. You just try to keep them under control and fix them as soon as they show up. I'll be the first to admit my car gets swirled from time to time but you'd never know because I fix them faster than I get them.

Like these guys have said, you can keep the swirls in check by using a clean source of water, rinsing the towel or mitt you use to wash the car after every panel and getting a 100% cotton towel/mitt to wash the car.

If you need to know a product to remove the swirls for good or just hide them let me know, I'd be more than happy to help you out.

thanks guys. I dont know if it came out wrong, but I meant I get fine scratches from using the brush on my vehicles not from swirls and I do use 2.0 if i get them :)

I think what they mean is:

"does the brush induce small micro scratches that are in the shape of circles"

If so, those are swirl marks. Small micro sized scatches that look like 1,000,000 little lines on your car.

P.S. Your Meguiars 2.0 product will fix some swirls and hide them.... hmmm, maybe your not getting MORE, maybe the swirls that are being filled with oils from the 2.0 product are re-surfacing after the product wears off.

If you want to fix them for good, I would recommend 3M Swirl Mark Remover (3M part number: 39009).

yes that is what I mean! And do you get them with the wash mitts.

I consider swirl marks the big ones that happen when you dont buff it out right- sorry

Well you do get swirl marks when you don't buff right, you just get ALOT more.

You can wash your car without inducing swirl marks when using a nice cotton mitt or towel but it is going to take alot of rinsing. When I used a mitt, I would swish mitt around in the bucket of water and spray the mitt with a strong stream of water after every half panel. It took a little longer but I didn't have to worry about swirls at all. If you do happen to get swirls from a mitt, I wouldn't think you would get more than 2% of the swirls you get now. You wouldn't even notice them if you got them. Thick cotton mitts or towels are the only way to go. Hopefully you don't need to apply pressure to get the dirt off, if you do, the only suggestion I have is "wash more often".
