First Polish Failure!

Needless to say that it did not go as planned. I washed the car and clayed it while I washed it. I started with the orange Lc pad and some 3M swril remover for dark cars that did nothing. I moved to a yellow pad and polished till the compound dried, no real change. I increased speed, no difference. I tried some Medallion paint cleaner, nothing. So now I am going to go get some DACP and some Speed Glaze and try again. Is that the right course of action of should I use some Menzerna IP and FP?

Hard to say w/o knowing the condition of the paint but I would say if you have more than very light swirls 3M SMR will not remove them. So going to either #80 (swirls/light scratches w/orange pad) or DACP (deeper scratches, try orange pad first) would be the right plan. The Menzerna twins should also do the trick.

As gearhead said, 3M SMR will only work on the lightest of swirls, and even then it takes a lot of polishing. I've had much better luck with #80 (speed glaze) or DACP and an orange power pad on anything worse than light swirls. For me the #80 was easier to use than DACP because the DACP tended to gum up on the pad. I would personally recommend sticking with the Meguiar's products because they are more newbie-friendly than IP and FP.

I don't agree with that. IP and FP II are very easy to use.

If you want to remove defects go with Menzerna. If you want to remove some and hide the rest (filling) than go with Meguiars.

I've had very few problems with Menzerna and I like the fact it doesn't contain fillers.

Having said that, Megs polishes give good results too.

Thanks for the responses. I think that I will add some Menzerna to my Pakshack order. I guess that I did not realize that my paint was in such bad shape.

What speed were you working at. My pc never goes under 5 1/2. Don't be afraid to crank it up, you'll get much better results when removing defects.

Every new product you try will have a learning curve. Be patient (I know its hard), do lots of research here using the Search function and the answers/techniques/tips will be found. Then try what is suggested. It may or may not work for you but keep trying, altering one thing at a time and evaluating the change.

Many people (myself included) using Menzerna's products - PG and IP - for the first time use too much product on the pad and end up with a gummy mess that is difficult to remove from the paint. Use a 50/50 mix of alcohol and water or another product such as Akrya Kleen (from TOL) to get the polish residue off. Clean your pad and start over, this time using only about half the polish used to make the original mess. Repeat the above until the pad doesn't gum up and leave build-up on the paint.

As an update I used the Mernenze Ip followed by FP then AIO with the PC and two coats of SG by hand. One word "wow", that Mernenza polish is grea and so easy to use. I found the combo to use. And it worked on my sisters black Accord as well.

I used the same steps but I used NXT over the AIO.

It's the first time that I used NXT and I have to say that I am extremely impressed with it. :bow
