First detailing on my Subaru with the Flex

So I will be doing my first exterior detail on my 2009 Subaru WRX on Saturday. I have heard Subaru's have soft paint so I wanted to get some opinions on what products I should use.

There is a lot of swirling all over the car. It looks pretty bad.

I have never used a flex before but plan on doing some thread searching today for tips. Feel free to post any here though!

The products I have is OC, OP, and some yellow, white, and blue LC pads and of course the Flex DA polisher. I bought this stuff when I had a G35 but I am not sure I should use the OC on my Subaru.

Original Plan

OC with Orange pad

IPA wipe down

OP with a white/blue pad

IPA wipe down

Then a coat of 845

I am thinking I may need to use the OP with the orange pad rather then the OC. I have heard the OP can be really effective with a more aggressive pad.

Your opinions and recommendations are greatly appreciated:2thumbs:

Thanks

Rich

I have no clue what OC and OP is but I just did a Honda (soft paint) with my Flex an Orange pad and M205, it turned out great and didn't even need a follow up. This Honda was in pretty bad shape, 07 Odyssey, never waxed, always driven through a gas station car wash, cats climbing all over it (with claws) and a dog that liked to try and get the cats while they were on it. There was only one little scratch that I had to bust out the M105 for.

I topped it off with DP Poli-Coat Paint Sealant

reggie11- I'd skip the yellow LC pad.

You won't know if OCP/orange will work until you try it, so do that. You can always just switch to useing OC on that pad if it doesn't work. I'd rather see you do the work a few times with the milder product than once with something aggressive as you'll be doing things in a more incremental, and thus presumably safer, way.

I myself wouldn't worry *too* much about the Subie clear being so soft that you have to give it a whole lotta consideration. Not like it's BMW Jet Black or anything ;)

Thanks for the tip! I will try the orange and OP to start with and if that doesn't cut it (no pun intended) I will switch to the OC.

Are the speed settings similar on my Flex to the ones on the PC? I was thinking of a speed around 3-4.

I use higher speeds than that, with the possible exception of final polishing passes. But I've only used mine on hard clear. Still, I'd crank it up to 5 and see how that works. IMO the primary potential problem with higher speeds is that they'll flash the product too fast.
