I finally cracked down and bought a new car. After pondering driving the Audi into the ground, I decided to get this and work on the other car on the weekends. Has worked out nicely and I hope to have a few pics up when the weather gets nicer to show attempts with a wool pad.
I took delivery of this GTI Dec. 11 and specifically instructed that no prep work be done to the car. When the car was delivered I noticed some scuffs and minor scratches from its transit overseas. I was delighted as I had just got a Makita 9227 to try out and this paint was still virgin in my mind.
Washed, clayed and rewashed car to insure it was spotless. Used a LC yellow pad and Optimum Compound to do most of the correction. Unfortunately I don't have any before pictures, but rest assured my work was cut out for me with the hard VAG clear. Most of the scratches were successfully removed but a few more passes in some trouble areas cleaned it up nicely. I followed that with some Sonus SFX-2 on a LC white pad, and SFX-1 on a LC blue pad. The car was glowing by this point, but I was very disappointed with the lack of depth. Coming from a darker car, this was just something I'd have to get used to.
I then applied a coat of Danase Wet Glaze, and as of now about 5 coats of S100. Its still a little cold and wet here in MI, but i don't mind reapplying every couple of weeks to boost protection.
So onto the pictures. I was only able to get 1 picture during the day because of a dead battery and it was overcast to boot, so no full sun shots yet. Ill try for those early next week.
Hope you all enjoy.
And my favorite, with a little help from PS of course.
