Finishing with an Orange Pad?

Is it possible to do a final polish with an orange pad using Optimum polish. I want to remove minor swirls from a black 06 explorer. Will an orange pad with Optimum polish give an LSP finish or does it need to be done again with a white pad and the Optimum polish.

Thanks

this one?

I can finish down with an orange pad on lighter colored vehicles. However on darker ones, I need a white pad to finish down properly.

It's the smooth Lake Country as pictured above. It came with the PC package from autogeek. This will be my first attempt at PC use. Should be fun on black.

On black, I would think you'd need to follow up with a milder pad to remove micromarring, but it all depends on the paint. The orange can finish out lsp ready on some paints.

I think the LSP finish after Orange and OP depends more on how hard the clear is and less on which color it is... on lighter colors, you won't see the micromarring the orange pad/OP create while on darker and black it's very obvious, considering it's the same clearcoat...

I would say on harder clears it's very possible, especially with a PC.. I've done a few Audis and BMWs with orange and Meg's #83 which came out LSP ready... even a black Audi once...

Ford tends to be on the softer side though, so I doubt you'll be LSP ready after orange/OP

I do however recommend what someone mentioned above, first try OP/white pad and see if that removes all the imperfections... if not, go with orange/OP, if it's not LSP ready, go back over it with white/OP

what does OP compare to in the menzerna lineup? FPII? I have used FPII on orange on VW clearcoat, it seemed to finish nicely, but now I think I could get more gloss out of it (it is black). I just hate working on the paint since it is so hard. I just feel FPII + white on VW paint does nothing, with the orange I can see a little bit of correction.

Can it be done - Yes. Should you go over/finish out with somthing less aggressive(blue/black) - it's a good idea. Technically, an orange pad is a cutting pad and not best for final finishing - especially on black.

+1.. on black and soft cc cars

I don't remember if I mentioned before, but Audi's and BMWs finish down perfect for me almost every time with orange LC pad and something like #82, FPII and sometimes even #80

just did a 06 civic with an orange pad + OC and it finished LSP ready with no probs...

What machine did you use?? I marred the crap out of Honda paint before with orange pad and OC using both rotary and PC... not that I don't believe you, just wondering :p

depends on the hardness of the clear

single stage, no way

toyota or honda clear, no way

BMW or mercedes clear, probably, but I always finish with a white at most...
