I bought this white civic back in Jan/Feb, I forget exactly when. At the time i bought it this was going to be the car that snapped me out of the two year itch I have gotten into which caused me to buy 3 cars in 6 years. For that reason I didn't start off trying to correct every blemish given to me by the factory. I figured I would accumulate some wear and tear then give it a polish in a year or so. For the past 6 to 7 months I have just waxed it with a nice all-in-one like Klasse or Meguiar's M20. So to 90% of the folks out there my car looks fantastic. Then one night I am walking back to my car in a lighted parking lot and the glare from a light reveals sanding marks on the hood. This car has not been painted so it is from the factory. I let it go for a while because you only see it when the light catches the car in a certain way. Tonight I got bored and decided to fix it. The sanding marks are really limited to one area of the hood, but you will see another defect in the corner of the hood, air bubbles. Come on Honda, what are you doing?
I washed the affected area with Dawn, taped it off, and went to work. I used a Makita rotary with 5.5" and 4" Lake Country pads. My polish of choice is PO85RD. For the existing sanding marks I just simply polished with the rotary. The air bubbles I hit with sandpaper then polished.
I really love Menzerna PO85RD. Even on my soft Honda paint it finished out beautifully. I didn't remove 100% of the defects on the hood but it looks remarkably better than before. Besides, I need to save a little paint so I can keep it for ten years. :rofl
Here are a few pics. The end result is fantastic! I think I will hit the entire car with PO85RD now that the cool winter months are here.
Taped off so I don't rip up the clear bra.
A lovely shot of air bubbles in the paint.
Lightly sanded with 2000 grit paper.
No more air bubbles.
No more factory installed sanding marks.
