finishing glaze followed by NXT?

I'm detailing a black Ranger today that has probably a normal amount of swirl marks (The truck is driven every day, taken through the carwash every so often, and is a few years old now). I'm using XMT #3 with an orange pad, #1 with a white pad, and am curious to know if I should follow up with:

XMT finishing glaze

Meguiars NXT

or should I skip the NXT and just use Meguiars #26?

NXT has some cleaning agents so if you use it over XMT glaze, you *might* be removing some of it. If you're going with the XMT glaze for sure, I'd go straight for #26.

I'm sure others can give more/better insight though.

Thats what I've heard, and thats what I'm wondering. I love the look of NXT, especially on a black car, but where as I'm not 100% confident I can get ALL the little swirls/scratches out (Who knows, I might be able to, we'll have to see.), I think the glaze might be a good idea. Any suggestions?

You will definitely be removing some/all of your glaze if you top it with NXT. NXT is nice on lighter colored cars like white, silver, etc., but for black I think I would lean more toward something like WG or PB's EX. There are a lot of routes you can take, and most/all of them will look good.

What will determine a major decision is if you are happy with what your finish looks like after you are done polishing. If you have some decent marring, scratching, etc. just take your time and polish the heck out of it. Don't be upset if you spend the whole day doing nothing but polishing. Using a PC (not a rotary of course) I have spent up to two days polishing on a car before. Granted, that was with lots of breaks, and taking my time, but it still happened, and the result was amazing. The key is patience. Work your polishes VERY SLOWLY, and you will be happy.

Post up some pictures, and maybe we can help you along.

Well the truck is a friend of mine / friend of a friend (We're both always at the same house, he's my best friends girlfriends best friend, so we're both always hanging out at their house) so if I have to make this a two day ordeal, its not the end of the world. I've got all day today and i can work into the night if i have to.... i'll be hanging out over there anyway, so it doesnt matter to me if i'm polishing his truck or in their barn shooting beer cans with BB guns, LOL

I'll definatly post pictures though, and thanks for the tip on NXT on lighter cars! The PT Cruiser I'm doing is gold, so I'll give that a shot!
