Finishes keep getting worse?

DETAILKING

New member
Well, someone did it. Dinged up my acura big time. It's a bad ding in the drivers door with some paint scratched off. I can't believe it....it looks horrible.

What are my alternatives? I heard things about this new type of repair where they use rods and stick them into the door panel and work out the dings. How effective is this? How much does it cost? And...where do I find this type of service in NJ?

Thanks for all your help.........

The weekend before the "ding"

You could take it to DentWizard. They to the paintless dent removal, the rods that were talking about. But to do this they need to drill a pretty good size hole in your door jamb. As for the paint being scratched off it sounds like you will need to fill it with paint and then wet sand. :(

See my PM.

Check with the local "high-end" dealers and see who they use. I did and it paid off. Cost $55.

Believe me, I know how this hurts!:(

Sorry to hear about your misfortune!!!

When considering paintless dent repair, which works really well on most minor repairs, that you may be loosing some internal barriers to rust. Most cars have plastic linings to prevent water from flowing freely around inside the lining. This barrier may or may not be rendered less defective by the tools used for the repair. I am not definite about this aspect so inquire about this prior to the repair.

Again I feel your pain... I would rather someone damage me in place of my car and in doing so I would be able to inflict much more damage on them.

Sorry to hear that. :( You might want to try DentWizard as some one else suggested.

"May the force be with you."

I don't know how bad the door ding is, but wow, thats one clean Integra. Around here where I live everyone is into the Civics and Intergras, if you had that around here it'd be treated as gold ......... for import lovers. I like Chevy which is night and day to the whole 4 banger concept (not to Acura though; which is Honda's gift to America).

I went to a Dent Magic here in Houston which is at a Mercedes dealership. I hadfour dings in the door of my M3. I told the guys I was very picky so if he couldn't do it right don't touch it! He did a great job, I cannot see where the dings were, it took him about 30 minutes. I didn't need any paint work though.

I feel you pain...

I would definitely would go with Brad's suggestion and check with your local dealer and/or bodyshop. I'm on the west coast and recently had a small ding in the fender of by 325i removed by Dent Wizards. The owner of a BMW bodyshop reccommended a specific DentWizard technician both he and the local BMW dealership uses. I called the guy up, met with him 2 days later and had the work done. The ding is completely gone and it looks brand new. What I did find interesting was that wet-sanding is also part of the paintless dent removal process. Because the metal is pushed inside-out by rods with different size metal or plastic tips on the ends, there will be minute high spots which must be leveled using a tool which resembles a nail set punch with a plastic tip and a plastic maul. The tech will very gently tap the high spots down and then lightly wet-sand the area. I have to be honest and say I nearly died when he did this, but he reassured me it was standard procedure. After the wet-sand and a quick passes with a buffer to polish the area, it was done. Total time 20 minutes and $150.00. The owner of the bodshop did an estimate on the damage and it came to $750!.

I recently had this done and was concerned at every step when the guy was beating on my baby. Even worse, the technician waved a mapp gas blow torch over the paint to assure it didn't crack when he made the fix. (It was very deep) I about fainted!

Is Zaino torch-proof? Hmmm.

Wow....the guy who did my dent repair did not use a torch or wet sand. He did use the plastic punch though on the high spots. The drill hole is really no big deal and is hidden in the door jamb. The only thing I see as a problem is that you have paint damage as well. Paintless dent repair sorta implies that they aren't going to mess with your paint... Does a heck of a job on the dings though! Sounds like you are going to need some traditional body work for that one.

I had DentPro do a few on my rig. Click here for pics (about halfway down).

Dent Wizards/Dent Pro (any well-known paintless dent repair outfit) ought to be able to do a good job. One alternative to drilling the jamb is to remove the interior panel (did that for my hatch). Given the rattle risk from removing the door panel (besides, a major PITA in an Acura), I'd go the drill-the-jamb route.

Since my nice ride got a hit-n-run (no witness, $900+ damage) a couple weeks ago, I feel your pain. I tried a paintless shop first since the paint is ok mostly, but the dent is way too big according to them. If the dent is large, it can "oil can" afterwards and reappear if pressure is applied to the same area. So if your dent is large, you might want to keep that in mind too.

When you have to work done please have some before and after pics !!! I also live in the car unfriendly state of NJ and my father-in-law just received a special present at the Freehold Mall in Freehold NJ. After an hour of X-mas shopping he returned to his 2001 Infiniti I30 and found a nice size "ding" in his front passenger door. Someone's special way of saying " Happy Holidays."

I went to the mall with the wife today to exchange a Christmas gift. She wanted to stop at another place to check something out, so I stayed in the Jeep. I witnessed an extremely inconsiderate person thow open the door of his $#!tbox and hit the passenger's side door of a Jaguar, then leave the scene. The s.o.b. left a nasty ding in the door of the Jag.

I did my civic duty as an Autopian...I made a note of the make, model and license plate of the bastard's car and left the information in a note with my name and phone number which I placed under the windshield wiper of the Jag. I hope the owner of the Jag contacted the local cobstabulary!
