Finish Kare FK 2180 and FK 1000P Discussion

Guys, at the moment, I'm using Meguiar's M16. Used to NXT Paste Wax, but I wanted to go the carnauba route, hence the purchase of the M16!

I'm thinking about Finish Kare FK 2180 and the FK 1000P. I believe both are sealants ( not waxes ), but I believe that the FK 1000P have a lot of carnauba content inside it ( how much actually, I do not know. Can anyone else have a say, or confirm on this matter? ).

My thinking is, after polishing with Optimum Polish / Compound, I want to apply the FK 2180 1st, and then apply FK 1000P afterwards.

Is this a good idea, or is it better for me to eliminate FK 2180? What attracts me to FK 2180 is that it is claimed to be anti - static ( I hate seeing the NXT Paste Wax on my car, or to the car's I've done, attracting dust! ), is this true?

And what attracts me to FK 1000P is that it is claimed to be super - tough, as it was originally designed for boat use! Now, how long does FK 1000P holds, and does it retains water sports etc? Malaysia is a high humudity country, with extremely heavy rains in the morning, and hot sun in the evening, or vice versa, in one day!

NXT Paste Wax only lasts about 4 weeks, sometimes only up to 3 weeks, and this is with weekly washing and application of NXT Spray Wax after each wash! The current M16 I have in hand is told to last a bit longer, roughly 6 weeks to 8 weeks max. What about FK 1000P? Can it outlast these two, but still shine, gives fepth, etc to the paintwork at the same time?

FK 2180 and FK 1000P users please chime in!

poyo, I think that this combo will behave good.

The late Floyd L. Meguiar was an extremely smart chemist, so his anti static invention is truly a worthy one. You can explore it with 425 the best, so I'd recommend it as well.

The 2180 has a learning curve as you have to follow FK1's directions literally. When they write that you have to work it into the paint, then a simple wipe on is not enough. Strange, as the paint seems to absorb it, until a point where it gets saturated and it won't disappear. From that point, the durability will be exceptional, especially when combined with 1000P.

1000P doesn't contain any carnauba, it is purely synthetic - and it can coexist with Megs #16, if you decide to top it.

I personally have the 2180 , but have learned to skip it and do the #215 followed by 1000P . FK products are one of my all time favorites. 1000P is much better than Pink Wax IMO on any color . Its like you added a layer of clear coat to your car with every layer.

FK 2180 never worked for me. Didn't last for sh!t, didn't apply easily and clogs up the applicator. I would personally skip it, and pick up 1000P, the general consensus is that it is a very nice product, although I have not used it personally.

I have used the #2685 Pink Wax, very nice product. 2-3 months durability, easy to use and a great look. If you are shopping FK I would also get #425 and #108 Top Kote, both are very nice and well above average performers in their class.

Sorry for getting a little OT. Bottom line, skip the 2180.

I used the 2180 by hand only two times... I'm always using it with my Bosch DA on speed 4 with a little pressure (1-2 layers), then the 3rd or 4th (if) coat goes on at speed 3 with no pressure.

Thanks again Bence, especially the clarification that FK 1000P is a polymer - based sealant. Does FK 1000P allows stuffs like water etch, bird droppings etc to etch and bond itself to the paintwork, or does it cleans up after a wash?

Comparison to Meguiar's NXT Paste Wax, whereby it does let water etch to bond itself to the paintwork, is FK 1000P a better alternative here?

I wish there's a test pack for the FK 2180, I want to see just how good it seals up the polishing work done underneath. Most importantly, does it really protect the paintwork against bird droppings, and water etch, also industrial fallout, vehicle smoke ( especially diesel ) and road tar.

Now, after polishing, sealing with a layer of FK 2180, then a layer or two of FK 1000P, and then Ma layer or two of Meguiar's M16 : will this combo work extremely well and bonds thoroughly? And yeah, I'd rather have maximum protection, with a bit less durability.

With this combo, in Malaysia's high humidity ( heavy rain and extremely hot sun ), just how long can I expect this combo to last, with a weekly wash? Anyone?

Hi poyo, U should not worry bout the durability. As FK1000P and M16 last a long time, even in M'sia. :) But sadly I've test FK2180, not really lasting for me. And it doesn't look as good as M21. I have excellent results and durability from Collinite 476S. It's currently my favorite for our weather in M'sia. :)

I have found 2180 to be very durable. I applied to my friends truck over a year ago http://autopia.org/forum/click-brag/77617-02-getta-06-colorado-56k-warn.html

His truck is usually washed every 1-2 weeks. But it went for over a month a few times. Including being covered in chicken wing grease for over a month (wings were cooked on a grill which was near his truck and the wind carried the grease over). It washed clean with no effort. It is garaged at night and in a parking garage during the day. But it still beads up today, over a year later. He doesn't use quick detailers either.

P.S. seems pretty resistant to water etching/spotting. He has never had any problems with it.

IIRC, FK1 offers a sampler pack for $20 which includes 2180. If you ask nicely they may add in a sample of 1000P as well.

1 coat of Z5 pro with 3x1000P I have seen 4 months before I added another couple coats of 1000P.

Fk1 108 is also a great interior/exterior plastic/rubber dressing.

I found 2180 to have a plastic look (think old formula Zaino), but it did bead for 48 weeks on my mom's Taurus (paint was prepped with FPII and an IPA wipedown, then applied with a PC/black pad/4).

1000P is a fine product - particularly on metallics. It doesn't have that "candy shell" effect of Pink Wax (very underrated product IMO), but it's significantly more durable.

hmm, there seems to be some mixed opinions here about the FK2180 liquid sealant.

Does anyone know between FK2180 and FK1000p, which one lasts longer and protects better against waterspot etching, birdbomb etching.

And of the two, which one applies easier and buffs off with no effort?

2180 x 2 with pinkwax and fx100 lasted 8 months on a client's black lexus. i couldn't believe it. it is garaged and the owner swears he did not wax it in btwn details. it was beading like a fresh coat when i washed it last month.

i find the first coat of 2180 to be a little stubborn to remove.

If I had to pick 1, I would go with 1000P. However, using 2180 as the base works very well (or a similar long lasting sealant).

1000P apply easily (very thin) and after 20-30 mins removal is easy. I usually need to follow it with 425/or Quality QD. 2180, if you follow the directions to a T, is a cinche.

Thank You!

Poyo, so which one are you planning to get? :p

I'll go for both, the FK 2180 to primarily seal the polishing job done underneath, FK 1000P for better, stronger protection ( and get some looks too ) then finally Meguiar's M16 for that 'nuba look! And yes, a layer of UQD afterwards.

Say, is the FK Pink Wax lasts longer than M16 over at our country Fishy?

Can you please tell me more on your experience with Collinite 476S?

I used 2180 on a silver-gray BMW with a PC & a white pad. It is a great one step product because it has a mild polishing properties. Great shine, and decent winter protection.

I agree about the 2180 learning curve , but I went straight from #215 to 1000P and let it cure then a few more 1000P's .....exceptional !!

After all the great reviews about the FK products, I placed my order! I got 2180, 1000P and the 425. THis should provide good winter protection. Can't wait to get the products and use them!:buffing:

Quick question, i was told to make sure the paint is very clean before applying 2180. THis includes an IPA wipedown. I'm a newb..can someone tell me the proper way to do an IPA wipedown? do I mix it with water, and at what ratio? just spray and wipe?
