Fine grain vs. medium grain clay

Some brands come in multiple grains (premium autocare has fine and medium grades for claymagic, for example). When do I use the fine grain and when do I use the medium grade?



Should I use fine grain under normal circumstances and medium grain for more difficulty situations (like overspray)?
