Finally, hot water in the garage!

I finally got the chance to run a water line from the hot water heater to the cold water hose bib in my garage that I use to wash cars with. Let me tell you, temperate water makes a huge difference when washing.

A) It actually warms up the garage a bit when the air temp in the garage is low.

B) There is a formula describing how rate of reaction climbs with temperature (I think it is geometric). What I found is that when you wash with warm water (approx 100f) you can use much less soap and rinsing is a snap.

C) Hands don't get nearly as chapped.

If you can possibly get some hot water to your hose bib do so!

Is the water straight out of the hot water heater? Not mixed with any cold? I didnt know it was ok to use HOTHOT water? Just askin;)

I've got a mixing valve on it to adjust the temp. It comes out just about shower temperature. You are correct though. Water that is too hot would certainly remove carnauba and probably synthetics at some point.

:up Cool

I think that the term "<span style='color: orangered'>Warm water" Is better than "<span style='color: red'>HOT WATER "

Damn - nice work on the hot water. My new house is being built now, but since I'm only 24 its not exactly a mansion. When I asked the builder whether they would run hot water to the garage they looked at me a bit strange and said...uh....no. DOH - guess I'll have to see if I can do it myself...

Has the rest of the plumbing been installed yet? If not, there's a good chance that you can ask the plumbing sub-contractor to run the extra line for a small fee. It's a lot easier to install water pipes BEFORE the walls go up.

I've got hot water in the garage too. :xyxthumbs

Thanks for the advice guys. Since this is my first house, and its a smaller starter house, the builders around here basically "cookie-cutter" them and offer only a few options. Something complex like running pipes to different locations isn't something they offer to do.

I think I'll just deal with it and see what its like when I move in later this summer...

I don't know about the newer paint jobs, but doesn't very hot water on very cold paint cause some spider webbing of one of the paint layers? I'd assume that would be water hot enough to scald skin.

Reminds me of a neighbor girl in school who cleaned her window ice/frost during a ND winter with hot water. That's one you don't bother calling the insurance agent on.

People do that here in Vancouver all the time. Luckily for them, it never gets much below freezing here. I just don't understand why they think it's so much more work to just get a scraper and scrape the glass, rather than run inside and grab several buckets of water and pour it on their car, which will end up freezing everywhere, including on their car...

Nothing bites more then a hard frost on a -15 degree morning. I may have to move to Canada to find a warmer climate. Tonight, April 25, it is supposed to get down in the mid-teens. That after 89 for a high last week.

I don' think you're going to have much luck up here, TBird. It's been in the low teens (Celsius) here while it's been in the 20's in Toronto and points back east. However, it never got below -8 or something like that this winter either. I washed every week right through the winter (outside). I was a neighbourhood favourite, since I am on the uphill side of a slope! :)

I gotcha all beat....possibly 2-7cm of snow tomorrow in Calgary.

And I was going to get my summers on today.

Everytime I book the appt. it snows.
