Fg 400

I tried Fg 400 today, it got rid of all the swirls and looks great. Fg 4000 is backordered but it looks so good now I don't know if I need it. Has anyone else found this to be true with Fg 400?

Yes, some paints will finish down just fine, others when you see under fluorescent lighting may not look as well as it seems to look under natural light.

Absolutely! Fg400 when used correctly is a very nice product. If you work it in and let the diminishing abrasives go to work it can cut deep and finish down. All depending on tool+pad used and desired rate of correction and finish. Personally I always follow up fg400 with something else because I'm usually using it as a compound with a more aggressive pad.

Trying to clarify I think I know what you mean just want to make sure!

Your going FG400 then SF4000 to finish

In that case I'm going to assume your initial FG400 was done with either cyan or tangerine. From there is go tangerine or crimson to finish. I try and finish off with SF4000-4500 with the crimson pad.

All depends on what machine your running/speed you have set.

Hope this helps!!

Yes I'm sorry sf4000. Yes thinking of finishing with tangerine pad. Then cl carnuba wax with crimson.

What machine are you using ?
How many years experience do you have with that machine ?
How many pads of each type do you have?
What year, make, model, color of the paint you are using this on?
What is the condition of the paint ?

Harbor freight da, 1 year, I have 4 of each hydo tech, 2014 Cadillac ats, black paint, lots of swirls and light scratches. It looks good now just some really faint scatches. I'm thinking maybe going over the light scratches with a less aggressive pad.

Thanks for your reply -
4 each of L/C Hydro-Tech ? you have 4 of the Cyan and 4 of the Tangerine colors then ?

How are you cleaning the pads after using them ?

If you can get the next size smaller backing plate - 5" or so, and of course pads to fit that backing plate, it would be much easier to use your machine and it would finish faster since it would be able to rotate a smaller diameter pad easier.. If not, you can still do fine, its just a big pad to use, takes more effort, you have to really watch all the places its touching, so it doesnt get you in trouble..

Either of the Lake Country Hydro Tech pads - Cyan or Tangerine - can finish down really great and were designed to do just that...
The Tangerine pad is less aggressive so I would use that one to finish those last few scratches..

You want as much pad rotation as possible but you need downward pressure on the pad to get the product to work and break down to the best of its designed ability..
So you have to balance that equation - so much pressure gets you so much pad rotation...

If you have been doing this on many vehicles in a years time, you will have figured this out..
The car you are working on is beautiful especially in black !
Good luck -

If SF-3500 is in stock that will replace SF4000 (it's the new and improved version). It works faster and is even easier to wipe off than SF4000.

Funny how different people (literally!) see things differently; all I see under fluorescents is stuff like sanding scratches and "texture" issues, which I do see well. For other stuff I have to look under different lighting; paints that seem LSP-ready after a compound don't look that good *to me* under the SunGun.

But I'm merely jawin' here since I've never used FG400 :o

Ok thanks for the replies. I am using a 5 inch backing plate. I have 4 cyan 4 tangerine and 4 crimson. They are sending me Wolfgang 3.0 polish. Accumulator you are correct I had it out in the sun and it looks really glossy my wife thinks it looks great but I think it could look better. I'll try the Wolfgang when it gets here then finish with cl carnuba wax.

Accumulator, Let me try to clear my statement up,
Many times a car finish looks great in the natural sun shine or very bright LED lights.

But let us take a look on a cloudy day, or say (4) 8 foot fluorescent mounted 3 feet or so above the car. Or parked under a street light in a parking lot.
At different height and angles the surface my not reflect the same as the sunshine.

Detail Impressions- Yeah, I know what you mean even if some of our experiences differ; seems like every different lighting situation brings something different to the table! No one, easy answer to "what light is best for [whatever]", unfortunately.
