Ferrari, C5 and g/fs new car.....

I moved to Northern Virginia for work at the end of May after graduating from the University at Buffalo. My g/f is still living in Buffalo for school. I went up to visit her at the beginning of September and had a few cars lined up to detail. I packed one suitcase full of almost all my detailings supplies. It was only 57lbs, not bad. My carry-on was my clothes, to last me 5 days. My luggage got lost on the way up and I was really worried (that's expensive stuff)! I got it the next day though.

First up the Ferrari. It is a 1988 328 GTS. Owner purchased it when it wasn't even a year old. 18 years later it has a whopping 12k on it! He has never let anyone detail it, besides himself. So it was a big decision on his part to let me detail it, especially with a machine. I choose to go very light with the polishing to clear up the haze but it didn't help the deeper scratches. He had been using this stuff called "The Treatment" he bought from the Ferrari dealer back in 88/89. Needless to say I brought him up to speed by telling him about Souveran, which he promptly ordered.

Process

Nxt wash

Spot clay (Not bad he never drives it)

FPII @ 6 White LC (not enough cut)

OP @ 6 White LC (Much better)

FTG @ 4-5 Black LC

Souvern x 2

The exterior vinyl got 303, wish I took some pics of the difference. It looked much better, and it didn't look bad to begin with.

The car looks pretty good, but there is no sun to really see.

The difference in dates is because I went back two days later to put the second coat on Souveran on and detail the C5.

It came out looking 100% better than before, but it is not 100% Autopian. I am already planning on going more agressive next year now that he feels safer having it machine polished.

I also did a quick wash and wax on his C5. It is his "driver" car so it gets played with much more than the Ferrari and he doesn't care for it as much. Looked 100% better for a wash/wax

Process

Nxt wash

Nxt Tech Wax via foam applicator by hand.

The g/f's new car is coming up next............ :secret

2006 VW Rabbit (First one in click in brag?)

I told her not to let the dealer prep it and they didn't!

Uniblack of course, so I knew I had to make it look stunning. Not to mention it is the little lady's so I had to impress her. :nervous2:

It came out near 100% perfect. It does have some bug etching on the front I will be taking care of when I have more time. It also has a bird bomb etched into the hatch from the dealer lot. I have some 3000 unigrit and 2500 unigrit to fix this if need be.

Process

Nxt wash in the pouring rain

Claymagic clay (in the garage)

OP @ 6 white LC

FMJ X 2

Souveran x 1

We took the CTS out because it was rainning almost all weekend, and I needed to let to FMJ cure between coats. Her mom gets a huge :2thumbs: for handing over her car.

Interior

Vac

Wet MF to wipe down with a little woolite

303 on vinyl.

1Wet/1 dry MF to clean glass

Wells/Wheels/tires

Cleaned with sponge, EO and scrub brush

Tires dressed with Megs Hot shine

Wells dressed with Wellworth(Local to Buffalo) dress it right(In the dark garage

I pulled it out and noticed that the rear wells are carpeted like the newer audis, oops, guess they didn't need to be dressed.

I removed the 2.5 Emblem, but she wanted to keep the Bunny.

Seeing what happened to the last car after I detailed it, something already happened to this one. About a week later she was driving home from work behind a Semi, keeping her distance to avoid rock chips. It was a city street, and the truck knocked a tree branch down that hit the roof and scratched it. It is small from what she told me so I have to touch this up next weekend when I see her since it is to the metal!

cars look good,

nice to see a girl driving a stick :2thumbs: i have been teaching my g/f but she gets nervous in first. thinks about it too much, she has to learn to just do it :getdown

i see you were using a flexi- backing plate, do you feel it provides enough uniform pressure ?

i like the results i get with a "solid" / "firm" backing plate more so than the flexible one.

what size pad / backing plate were you using ??

I started teaching her back in April when we first started dating and she did pretty good in parking lots. Took it on the street a few times, and she did good if no cars were around but got nervous as soon as she saw a car.

I ended up sick for like a month and she didn't drive it until she came to visit me in Virginia July 15. I took her out for about 30 mintues 1 night in a parking lot then I brought her to my friends house I carpool with the next morning and said "Here, take it home." I just kept leaving it for her when I could and she picked it up really quick, then decided she wanted a manual. I was glad it is more fun for me too!

It is a flexible backing plate. It is the CMA 6 inch BP. I use 6 or 6.5 inch LC pads from CMA. I also have their 4 inch flex BP and pads. It seems stiff enough. I only used a stiff plate that came with my Hitachi once and I didn't notice any difference.

i have the 6 in BP and the 6.5 cma pads too !!

nice to know that she learned quick, i have yet to get my girl out on the street :o

I find that if you teach them how to slip the clutch so they can crawl out from first at/near idle they learn the feel of engagement much quicker. This helps them become more proficient in first gear. I made her start and stop a ton in a pakring lot, must have looked funny!

Morning Thomas. That Mazda and 5 series looks good. Does the owner of that M3 vert belong to ECE? The car looks very familiar.

Thanks for the compliments. Let me know if you want to GTG sometime. Also if you want any samples of FMJ or any of the other few items I have.

Well welocome to NoVA. Im in Ashburn which isnt too far. Very Nice details on all three. I have been detailing around this area for 2 years now and yet to get a ferrari or even just a corvette to detail so looks like you are getting some good clients early! Love the Ferrari witht the Souveran wetness!!

Thanks Chris,

The Ferrari and C5 were in Buffalo. I flew up two weeks ago to detail and see my g/f.

I do have a millenium yellow C5 to do this weekend! He lives in my apartment complex so I had it easy finding him. The problem with the sports cars is they are so dang low I hate trying to do all the lower panels. The lift was awesome with the Ferrari! When I eventually get a house I am getting a lift for sure.

John - The owner Scott is a pretty large guy who looks oriental, so you'd know if it is the car. I think. I do know that he is in a bmw club.

Yes we need to gtg soon. Do you want to practice your wetsending skills on my car? Any time you are welcome. I need to get some paper soon to practice with.

Next time Use your pc to apply 2180. Goes on very easy that way. Actually, most synthetic waxes spread easy now adays. I am detailig a 2001 black thunderbird this afternoon, that is covered in swirls. Detailing at home at least. I should try fmj.

Thomas I think he might be the same guy. I do not know him personally, just through the ECE forums.

Lol, sure Thomas. I got 5 sheets of 3000 and 2500 unigrit and a flexible sanding block. I plan on touching up my chips and the small amount of curbage that magically appeard on my one wheel.

Autodetailing solutions sells it by the sheet. I didn't really want two 25 packs!

Let me know when you want to GTG. So far I only have 1 car this weekend, on Saturday.

all the cars look great. but in one of the shots, did the rabbit do a one wheel burnout?

Lol, no that was her younger brother. I belive that particular burnout is from the CTS. He did it with the Cavalier but they were not that great. His '95 Vette will lay some serious rubber though. He is 18 and thinks burning out is the coolest thing ever, especially with other peopls cars.

She babys the Rabbit, although with 170 ft-lbs and a stick it should lay some decent rubber.

I have a few. The car was not moved after Friday evening when I finished the 1st coat around 11:30pm. I returned Sunday to put on the second coat and wash/wax the C5. It was rainning so the Ferrari stayed put, and probably will until next year when I make him take it out so I can detail it again.

These are all I have, not very good I've afraid.
