Process:
Wash: ONR with white/yellow Shmitt. No clay, done recently.
Wheels: ONR with black Shmitt, sealed with Duragloss 105. Tires, Poorboys BNB
Polish: Hi-Temp Heavy Cut Leveler, green Propel 2 pads, Cyclo (new 3.5" backing plates)
Glaze: Danase Speed Glaze with LC Black pads and PC at speed 5.
Sealent: Duragloss 105 (worked great on rubber covered running boards also)
Glass: Stoner's Invisible Glass, two Walmart waffle weave dishtowels.
I've been fighting micromarring on my wife's minivan for some time. Yesterday I decided to try out some of my newer products and try to remove the marring. I tried Hi-Temp Heavy Cut Leveler, Black Fire SRC polish and the new Optimum Compound using the Cyclo and Orange Cyclo pads and managed to knock back about 40% of the marring on my taped off test area. I decided it was too much work for nearly invisible defects (see next picture).
I then went over the van with the Hi-Temp Heavy Cut and the green Propel 2 pads using my Cyclo with my new 3.5 inch backing plates. I much prefer the Cyclo with backing plates as opposed to the Cyclo with Cyclo boots. Much easier to get under things. I was amazed at the gloss this combo achieved. I was also amazed at only using one set of pads on a minivan. I tried the Blackfire SRC polish (Menzerna 106ff) on the hood and could see no improvement over the Hi-Temp finish.
I was removing the RMG-Souveran wax combo and was interested to see if the Danase Speed Glaze would mute the metal flake as I had read in a couple posts. On my paint if anything the metal flake improved.
The Duragloss 105 I applied by hand using a microfiber applicator. Not as easy as UPP, but not that hard. The results compared well to the RMG-Souveran, however I think my prep was better this time.
Lessons learned.
1. The Nissan paint is a pain to get micromarring out of, but you can't see it without burning out your retinas.
2. The white/yellow Shmitt left me lukewarm. Sheepskin seems just as good.
3. The black Shmitt is the bomb. I know Justin30513 uses it on paint.
4. If your not getting the Edge/Cyclo double sided pads, the 3.5" backing plates are worth buying.
5. The Danase Speed Glaze does not seem to mute metalflake (at least on my car).
6. Hi-Temp Heavy Cut finishes great on hard clearcoat.
My last day at age 56 (tomorrow is my birthday)
Have a great weekend. :dance
