F250 Super Duty Crew Cab

This one has about 70k miles on it. It is used at times to pull a 5th wheel horse trailer.

On arrival:

img3212ay7.jpg

After a good rinse with the pressure washer:

img3220qa0.jpg

img3219xq6.jpg

Then it was time to get out the lance and foam it up. I wanted a strong soap mix for this one as it was still pretty dirty.

2oz CGCW

1oz Z-7

2oz AM Red Hot APC

27oz of water

This is 4-5 mins after the foam was applied:

img3223ab8.jpg

I had sprayed some AM Red Hot APC 1:1 on the tires, wheels and wells.

You can see how the dirt starts to "bleed out" on it own from the Red Hot APC:

img3222sx6.jpg

I still cleaned the tires twice with the Red Hot.

Wells where scrubbed with a bug sponge and tires cleaned with an old MF mitt.

img3229ge5.jpg

I rinsed away the foam with the pressure washer. I then refoamed and went over the lower panels/front with the bug sponge. I did a 2 bucket wash with a sheepskin mitt. Rinsed again with the pressure washer. I then clayed the truck use a capful of Z7 to 12 oz of water as lube. Rinsed truck again.

img3224ft9.jpg

Interior-I had actually done the interior the night before, but will show that now. The client has the husky matts in the truck so they keep the carpet very nice. :D

Carpet already vac'd in these pics, seats not touched yet:

img3190zf9.jpg

img3193mo6.jpg

img3195eu6.jpg

In under 2 hours:

Vac

APC/steamer/MF wipedown on all hard surfaces.

APC/MCME/Steamer/MF wipedown/Duragloss leather conditioner on all leather.

Glass got IG.

Interior finals:

Polishing-I was wanted to one step the truck, so I did a test panel w/ SIP and a orange CCS pad at 1700 on the metabo. I backed it off to 800 to finish it out, hoping for a hologram free surface.

img3251dg9.jpg

It appears that I removed allot of the defects, but the lighting is not showing the RIDS that are still left, plus will there be holograms or not? No sun out at this time as we finally have some rain. So as usual I revert back to using wool for the cutting step as it will be much faster.

I tried my "trusty" green wool/P1500/1600 on the metabo but that was not cutting the deep RIDS out either. Time to step it up and go with the heavy hitter:

Yellow wool/3M extra cut/Metabo 1800.

I settled on ZPC/Orange American Buffing Co 6" pad/PC6 to finish it out.

Finally got some sun outside to inspect my work with.

This is a untouched area:

img3258is1.jpg

This area had 1x of the yellow wool combo and was followed with the PC:

img3259jz0.jpg

That is not going to cut it in my book.

Hood after wool x2:

img3260tk2.jpg

Hood after PC:

img3262qe7.jpg

So I go back in and use the wool over the truck twice everywhere.

Yellow wool/3M extra cut/Metabo 1800

Then follow with:

ZPC/Orange American Buffing Co 6" pad/PC6

I worked the areas with allot of pressure making sure I would leave no wool marks or holograms.

I blew off the truck with compessed air to get rid of most of the wool shedding, I then did a Z6 wipedown. I wiped down all the door jambs.

2x of Z2pro with ZFX

Applied Z-16 to the tires.

ZAIO to the wheels and glass.

I then called it a night.

The next day I applied 1x of ZCS and followed a few hours later with Z8.

Did a quick polish on the nerf bars with some blue magic and a MF

Did the exposed exhaust tip with blue magic and some 0000 steel wool.

No direct sun at first:

Then it started to peak out:

Wow Bryan, your work always amazes me!! Very nice work and great job with a big truck. Man, the thought of taking a PC to the whole thing scares me (how long did that take in an of itself?)

Superb job Bryan! You really did a excellent job at cleaning that one. That's got some really nice gloss to it.

Sometimes Ford paint can be a real pain to remove the defects and it sometimes takes 3-4 times to remove all of them. I do a lot of those trucks and most of them are all black with the low budget quality paint.

Terrific work. Beautiful gloss on a huge vehicle, you must be in traction now. :goodjob I've done a one step polish on a F-150 and am now official retired from truck detailing. :grinno: Love your work, nice write up.

Looks brand new again Bryan! I did a similar truck a few weeks ago that was not very fun at all. Definitely not looking forward to doing another one! You do amazing work.

Just curious why you didn't use the ZPC by rotary on such a big truck? I have a full bottle of ZPC that I have only used once. I used it on a black newer syle F150 using a foam finishing pad and left a good amount of hazing. I think my RPM's were too high. I've read that it does not like higher speeds. Do you have any tips for me using ZPC by rotary?

Again, amazing work!

I do allot of those trucks, but that looks way better than when I do it.

Great job!

Thanks Brandon! The client pretty much paid for and wanted it right. So I had some hours into the truck for sure.

Thanks Todd! Everything takes for ever on a truck this size. A Z6 wipedown alone is 2 hours. :grinno: Somewhere around 45 mins to run the PC over this truck would be my guess.

Thank you Ryan! Are most of the black F-series you do repaints or do you think the factory black paint is poor?

Here is the reason I ask. The boyfriend of the gal who owns this F250 is trying to buy this F350 from the construction company he works for. It has 210k on it. Should know in a week or two if I am going to get this one. :nervous2:

looks nice dude, what did you do with those decals, did u tape them off or just tried to avoid them by eye-balling it?

Thank you! I stayed off of them with the rotary and went over them with light pressure with the PC.

Thanks Sludge! They have allot of paint for sure. If the black F350 pictured above shows up in my garage, please send for the men in the white suits. :help:

Rick, Thank you very much for your kind words. The red one you did looked so darn good when you got done.

When I started with the PC, the sun was not out and sometimes on softer clears I get some holograms with ZPC on the rotary. So basically I wanted to do it once and when I found the PC worked I just stuck with it. Plus I don't have to worry about re-washing the truck if I use 106ff or ultra fina. Four small dots of ZPC on the pad for the rotary (same as the PC) Spritz the pad with some Z6 too. If I get hazing with ZPC it is usually from one of two reasons. I used too much or I did not work it long enough. As long as you stay below 1500 and use Z6 as a pad lube, you should be able to work ZPC till its about dry. Slow passes help too.

Nice work. One recommendation for you that I have learned from washing a Dodge Heavy Duty in a garage. Tuck the garage door emergency release lever out of the way so that when you pull into the garage, the handle is not striking the roof and creating the possibility for another scratch up there (since we all know how fun it is to do pickup truck roofs LOL).

Awesome work Bryan. That had to take some time.

Thanks John! Yes it did and my lower back feels it today.

Thanks! I tied it off after the first time of putting it in the garage. If the truck had an inch or two of lift. I would of had to do the detail outside.

Nice work on this one.

Looks a lot like the job that I have sitting in my garage right now. Ugh...

Thank you! I do not envy you one bit.

.

Some of them I do are repaints. Some of the factory Ford paint is a real pain and they have poor quality paint and can be a pain if they were not protected prperly. I have done a bunch last month that looked like these pics.

UCCL, 3M ECC, on a wool or orange foam pad.

SIP- orange pad

UF- blue f pad

I wish I lived closer to come and help:idea I do those in my sleep.

Thanks Lee!

Ryan, If I get the job, looks like some areas will get the black wool and S1000 polish.

But I hope to get by with yellow 3M ECC and then follow with green wool/P1500 and some UF.

What a nasty mess you did a superb job cleaning up Bryan. I too am used to this size rig and know how long it takes via pc, what a complete and utter pita. Good work, I feel sorry for your back after this one. I sure hope you charged in the neighborhood of 5 bills!

Thanks Brian! I detailed another SD today, but it was an '08, so much easier.
